The Dangerous Sea is the entire area off the islands where
Sea Events spawn:
Sea Beasts,
Ship Raids,
Haunted Ship Raids,
Sharks,
Piranhas,
Terrorsharks... This guide covers the 7 danger levels, recommended loadouts, enemies and their drops, and hunting strategies for solo, duo, or group play.
How to get it
A guide for Sea Event hunters: useful if you're farming
Fragments, aiming for the
Shark Anchor or
Leviathan, or want to fill your
Race V4 gauge with Sea Beasts.
The 7 danger levels
The Dangerous Sea is the area far from the islands (the term is unofficial). When you enter it, a
Sea Danger Level appears around your compass, starting at 0. The deeper you go, the higher it climbs:
| Level | What awaits you |
|---|---|
| 0 (None) | Calm sea with rocks, chance of |
| 1 (Low) | Still calm: 1 to 3 Sharks, very rare Sea Beasts, small chance of Ship Raid and Haunted Ship Raid, |
| 2 (Medium) | First level where Terrorshark can appear: very rare here, but in its weakest form, perfect for farming |
| 3 (High) | More frequent and stronger Terrorsharks, 2 to 3 Piranhas, first level of |
| 4 (Extreme) | End of the "farming zone" (levels 1-4). Terrorshark more dangerous but killable with a high-damage/defense fruit (Magma Awakened, Buddha Awakened) and matching accessory ( |
| 5 (Crazy) | Second hardest level, recommended for 3+ players. Terrorshark very difficult solo, simultaneous events, 4+ Piranhas, multiple Sea Beasts every 4-10 minutes, even more violent Rough Sea. |
| 6 (????) | The ultimate level: darkened and distorted screen (lessened by |
The 4 families of Sea Events
Events without enemies: Mirage Island, Treasure Island, Rough Sea, Frozen Dimension (which brings the Leviathan), Kitsune Island (Full Moon / Blue Moon only).- Enemy events: Shark, Piranha, Sea Beast, Ship Raid, Haunted Ship Raid.
- Raid Events: Terrorshark.
- Special events: Haunted Shipwreck (with its
Ghost Ship Raid) and Prehistoric Island (with its
Volcano Event).
Loadout: races and fruits
Race V4 is very powerful at sea, but tough to activate without Sea Beasts nearby.
| Race | Strengths | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| High damage below 50% HP (V3), extended speed and dash, dodge bonus and dodge regen on | V3 is risky mid-Sea Event: you need to be low on HP | |
| Good in teams, high damage | Can lag lower-end configs | |
| Enhanced HP regen, melee life leech, good cooldown reduction, small damage/speed/defense buffs | Leech only works in melee (except Blood Siphon in V4) | |
| Shark | Immunity to sea damage (V2+), huge damage reduction in V3 and massive in V4 | No mobility or damage buffs |
For fruits, the safe picks:
| Fruit | Why pick it | To know |
|---|---|---|
| Best for Sea Beasts and most events by the community: high DPS, ranged moves, walks on water (Awakened), sky camping | Slow F, small X hitbox, max damage when enemy is below you | |
| Best for Leviathan by the community: devastating M1 on it | Hard to obtain | |
| 50% damage reduction when transformed (stacks with | Low mobility, some | |
| Hits everything (M1 and | Hard to obtain; you can drown if ejected from your platform | |
| High AoE damage with burn (C, F), 20% reduction and good speed transformed (with | Very expensive; damage empties Tail Meter; no weapons in transformation; water damage if still transformed (except Shark race) | |
| X Thunderstorm (extended Z) monstrous on big hitboxes, giant AoE, F to flee; can outdamage Magma if played well | M1 and Z don't hit Sea Beasts or boats; missed X = zero damage | |
| 50% reduction transformed, M1 (roar) hits all events, F transformed with continuous unstoppable damage | Low mobility, expensive, Shark race required for water transformation | |
| Huge AoE, everything at range, maintained F with continuous damage, maintained V in huge continuous zone, sky camping | F breaks if you take damage; can lag | |
| Extreme damage, giant AoE, Z and C maintained to stay airborne, works with almost all builds | Doesn't walk on water; summonable buddies only on the boat | |
| Good AoE damage, maintained F with continuous damage + huge mobility | F interrupted by damage, long cooldowns, expensive | |
| Huge full AoE damage, transformed C incredible (puddles re-hit Sea Beasts in loops) | Slow projectiles, expensive | |
| Ice | Walks on water WITHOUT Awakening, most moves hit boats and Sea Beasts, long stuns, cheap, low mastery | Unawakeneed X and V don't hit boats/Sea Beasts; long cooldown after V; F has no damage |
| Hits everything, accelerated fruit cooldowns and 20% reduction transformed | Very expensive | |
| Exceptional heal, sky camping, all skills hit big targets | Lower damage, X energy-hungry; in teams, expect reduced drops | |
| V in huge continuous zone, X that stuns at long range, very fast | ||
| Good AoE damage, cheap, low mastery, hits everything except F | Slow flight |
Loadout: weapons and accessories
Combat Styles:
| Style | Strengths | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| High damage, M1 at long range (melee can't reach you) and without dash, all movesets hit sea enemies, Z that heals 20% HP, C auto-aimed with unavoidable damage on direct hit | Low mobility; Z doesn't heal on M1-immune enemies (Sea Beasts); very hard to obtain, high mastery | |
| High damage, hits everything, full AoE, very good mobility, high knockback, M1 without dash | C at short range | |
| Large hitboxes and AoE, high damage, long range, high knockback | Hard to obtain, end lag on all moves, C can drown you |
Swords:
Dragonheart and Shark Anchor (very high damage, large AoE; Shark Anchor also drags enemies far),
Saber (crazy damage, Z over 10,000 on crit, easy to obtain, but X at close range on Sea Beasts),
Hallow Scythe (large hitbox, good mobility),
Dark Blade,
True Triple Katana (Z at short range),
Dragon Trident (easy to obtain but no mobility),
Cursed Dual Katana (mobile, long-range grab),
Buddy Sword (very good against Terrorshark, but single-target Z that doesn't hit boats or Sea Beasts).
Guns:
Dragonstorm (top for ships and Terrorsharks),
Skull Guitar (M1 hits everything, very long range, high stuns, X heals),
Acidum Rifle (easy to obtain, good stuns),
Magma Blaster,
Kabucha (high stun/knockback, slow X). Caution: Acidum Rifle and Magma Blaster M1s don't hit Sea Beasts.
| Accessory | For who / why | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Solo: damage + sea item drop rate, +1 dodge Instinct (top with Human) | Damage limited to sea monsters, only +12% for | |
| Leviathan Shield | Defense + huge HP bonus, perfect for fruit users without Shark race | No damage bonus, hard to obtain |
| Fruit damage + high HP and energy | Extremely rare (even with 2x Drop Chance gamepass) | |
| Pale Scarf | Fruit/sword: +2 Instinct dodges, x10 vision to find your group, easy to obtain | No defense, HP, or energy |
| Solo damage, easy to craft | No defense, HP, or energy | |
| Defense + damage + reduced cooldowns | No fruit / Fighting Style bonus, fairly hard to obtain | |
| Hunter Cape | Speed + HP + damage (sword/style/gun), easy to obtain | No fruit damage |
| Kitsune Mask | THE solution to see in Sea Danger Level 6, good with gauge fruits (Dragon, Kitsune) | No speed, doesn't brighten Mirage Island, mainly useful for fruit mains |
Enemies and how to counter them
| Enemy | Attacks | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Shark | Shark Bite: bite hitting boat and player, even at distance | Keep your distance; a glitch prevents sword/melee M1s from hitting them |
| Piranha | Electric Shock: damage + electric shock that blocks or cancels your skills | Place your skills AFTER its attack, stay far (same M1 glitch) |
| Sea Beast | Deadly Shower (projectile rain), Water Beam (about 1,500 damage + knockback), Deadly Roar (AoE that stuns and breaks Instinct), Dive (dives for a moment) | Dodge rain by dashing or swimming; Instinct at beam charge sound then cut it; anticipate roar by cutting Instinct; keep energy during Dive |
| Ship Raid | Ship Cannon: explosive cannonballs that break Instinct | Instinct at cannonball approach then off; a |
| Haunted / Ghost Ship Raid | Same cannons, higher damage | Same strategy |
| Terrorshark | Squalus Dance (tail combo at close range that sends you to water, its "M1"), Typhoon Splash (jumps and lands, breaks Instinct, huge hit), Super Charge (swims as fast as Miracle once it has a target) | Never swim near it (Flash Step to escape), back off when it rears up, fly highest or pull it toward allies to change targets |
| Leviathan | Snowstorm of Death (2 fine tornadoes that stun), Cold Frostpiercer (roar that freezes ahead + knockback), Sub-Zero Annihilation (red zone, ~5s countdown, tail swing + ice at extreme knockback), Frostbite Dive (dives and reappears near you) | Keep moving against tornadoes (2-3 can coexist); never near its head, dash sideways when ice spears arrive; leave red zone AND leave ground (skycamping above isn't enough); after dive, distance yourself, it can chain immediately |
| No miracle counter: kill fast or avoid | ||
| Shark Bite, like regular Shark | Keep your distance | |
| Lava Golem | Fists + Magma Awakened moveset (Z, X, C) | Crowd fruit with stuns and knockback (Buddha first; otherwise Dragon, Kitsune, Yeti, Gas, Mammoth, |

To know: Valor only drops if you have the
Shipwright subclass and caps at 5,000; Sea Beast Beli and Fragments depend on your level; level gains don't apply at max level; Leviathan Bounty no longer drops beyond 2.5M Bounty/Honor; Leviathan Scale count depends on your damage; Leviathan Heart is collected at the
Beast Hunter harpoon on the boat and taken to
Tiki Outpost.
Strategies: group, duo, solo
- In a group: prepare your roles before leaving. 2-3 players on Magma for DPS, and a pilot steering while others fight, to keep the boat alive. A
Portal player can make any Sea Event despawn with [V]
Dimensional Rift, as long as EVERYONE enters the rift. Leaving on 2+ boats also lets you fall back to the other if one sinks. - In a duo: one pilot executing evasion maneuvers, one attacker dealing damage, then swap roles to let regen work. At least one with Shipwright subclass: the boat is the hunt's bottleneck.
- Solo: venturing alone in high danger levels is discouraged, too many events can spawn at once and overwhelm you. Take a high-damage fruit (Magma, Gas, Dragon), Sanguine Art (all movesets hit events;
Death Step and Dragon Talon as alternatives) and the Marine Sloop: fast, small hitbox, high HP.
Mistakes to avoid
- Staying on the boat when Portal opens [V]: the boat goes into the rift with no return and you must reset, because no Sea Event spawns without a boat.
- Going to Sea Danger Level 5 with fewer than 3 players, or level 6 with fewer than 6: these zones are built for groups (level 6 only for Leviathan hunts).
- Camping level 2 hoping for quick Terrorshark: it's in weakest form here, but spawns very rarely. Level 4 is the right spot for Shark Anchor.
- Using transformed Dragon C in Volcano Event: it repairs volcano cracks while attacking and spawns even MORE Lava Golems.
- Counting on Sanguine Art Z to heal on Sea Beast: the heal doesn't work on M1-immune enemies.
- Skycamping above Leviathan's Sub-Zero Annihilation red zone: you'll get hit anyway. You must leave the zone AND leave the ground.
- Playing Sanguine Art solo against multiple Lava Golems: its long-range M1 is single-target, you risk big with numbers.
