Race Awakening (or Race V4) upgrades your race from V3 to V4 and unlocks buffs unique to each race: mobility, reduced cooldowns, damage, defense, or ally support. On the agenda: the
Temple of Time puzzle, each race's Trials, gears, the
Ancient Clock, and the Awakening transformation.
How to get it
Exclusive to the
Third Sea, added in Update 18. You need a V3 race: unlocking it involves the Race Awakening puzzle (
Mirror Fractal, resonating with the moon, Temple of Time), followed by your race's Trials.
What is Race V4
Race Awakening upgrades your race from Version 3 to Version 4. The reward: powerful buffs specific to each race, including increased mobility, reduced cooldowns, damage and defense boosts, or support effects for your allies. Unlocking it involves quests, a puzzle, and trials, with content that varies by race.
Unlocking the Awakening: the puzzle summarized
The core of the puzzle revolves around the Temple of Time, a
Safe Zone in the Third Sea:
- Before you start, you need access to the Third Sea, a race at V3 and one win over
rip_indra True Form: the
Sealed King, who starts the quest, stands behind
rip_indra's building on
Castle on the Sea, next to a big tombstone, and he only hands out the quest once that boss is down (before that, all you get is an epitaph). - The Temple of Time is accessed by interacting with the
Mysterious Force at the top of the
Great Tree. - The key to the puzzle is the Mirror Fractal: a
Mythical material with a guaranteed drop from
Dough King (it's also used to craft the
Leviathan Shield and
Treasure Rod, and it isn't consumed by the puzzle). - After talking to the Sealed King again, climb a high peak of
Mirage Island and resonate with the moon: look at it with your race's V3 ability active and a Mirror Fractal in your inventory. The message "Your Mirror Fractal has resonated with the moon." confirms success. - Despite the Sealed King's dialogue about a full moon, it's NOT required: since the Valentine's update (Update 19), resonance works from Mirage Island at any lunar phase.
- Tip: switch to first-person view or shift-lock to aim at the moon; third-person doesn't always detect it.
- Next, find the
Blue Gear, which spawns at certain locations on Mirage Island. - Head to the Temple of Time: with the Blue Gear, pull the lever located above the entrance to the left corridor. A secret door opens at the end of the corridor and grants access to the Trials. Without the Blue Gear, the lever knocks you back ("You lack the strength to move it!").
Trials and titles by race
Each race has its own dedicated trial in the Temple of Time and its V4 title:
| Race | Trial | V4 Title |
|---|---|---|
| Berserker | ||
| Thunderbolt | ||
| His Majesty | ||
| Nightwalker | ||
| Genesis | ||
| Primordial Guardian |
Gears, Ancient Powers, and Ancient Clock
When unlocking V4, you receive one of five gears, but you can't choose which one: you need to redo Trials to change it. Placing the first gear grants access to Ancient Powers: once transformed, your stats max out with an additional 10% damage, speed, and healing boost.
To obtain the remaining gears, you must complete other Trials and win their boss battles. Full Awakening requires five Trials, but only four victories are truly necessary: the fifth unlocks the Ancient Clock, which lets you change gears freely. Once all steps are complete, you can only change gears by redoing a Trial or restarting the game.
In the Temple of Time, the NPC
Ancient One plays a central role throughout the process. The Ancient Clock is located at the top of a long staircase that teleports you backward until you've completed a Trial.
The Awakening transformation
V4 unlocks an ability called Awakening. Fill the transformation gauge located below your energy bar by dealing damage: damage to players counts more than damage to
NPCs and bosses.
With the gauge full, press left-click or Y: the transformation animation plays, with visual effects unique to each race, and you're invincible for its entire duration. Once transformed, you gain additional stat boosts.
V4 passives by race
Each race has two gear powers, each with two tiers:
| Race | Power | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Limit Break | Rage gauge that strengthens you, up to 100% | Extended duration, cap increased to 150% |
| Human | Psycho | Faster recharge, longer dash, your moves are no longer interrupted by damage | |
| Shark | Your attacks apply a water debuff that slows (stackable) | Debuff duration and slowdown increased | |
| Shark | Leviathan's Armor | Shield capacity and healing per hit increased | |
| Rabbit | Whirlwind | Your dashes create tornados that stun and cancel abilities | |
| Rabbit | Lightning Cloak | Dash range greatly increased | Super dash by holding the dash key |
| Angel | King's Rule | All effects strengthened: more damage, faster drain, stronger slowdown | |
| Angel | Prince of the Skies | Glide by holding dash, fly by holding jump | Improved glide and flight, speed slightly increased |
| Ghoul | Domain Expansion | Expanded field, and crows attack when you dash or strike | |
| Ghoul | Blood Siphon | Life steal: approximately 10% from NPCs, 25% from players | Life steal: approximately 20% from NPCs, 35% from players |
| Cyborg | Aftershock | Your attacks temporarily disable enemy | Effect stronger and longer-lasting |
| Cyborg | Energy Control | Increased orb damage; Super Jump and Super Dash no longer require Instinct and deal damage | |
| Draco | Cometic Field | Explosive orbs after 4 hits on an enemy (approximately 2,300 damage); increases nearby allies' damage | Explosions at approximately 3,500 damage, 3 hits are enough |
| Draco | Thorn Mail | Returns approximately 41% of damage to enemies in the area; increases nearby allies' defense | Return increased to approximately 63.7%, ally defense increased |
How much it costs (and how long it takes)
- Fully awakening one race costs 26,750
Fragments. All seven races (Human, Rabbit, Shark, Angel, Ghoul, Cyborg, and Draco) total 187,250 Fragments. - Count on 77 minutes of transformation (77 transformations) to complete full training for one race. For all seven: 539 minutes, roughly 9 hours.
- The theoretical minimum level to unlock V4 is 1509, thanks to 3 levels from rip_indra and 6 levels from Dough King.
Did you know?
- On December 31, 2022, the "release" of Race Awakening was actually just a video showcase, despite an in-game timer: the community searched for V4 for nothing and took it very poorly. The real launch happened on January 6, 2023...on an actual full moon night.
- V4 was designed to rebalance PvP (teamers, runners, sneak attacks while farming): the gauge charges in combat, so a solo player facing teamers transforms faster, and runners barely charge their gauge.
- Full moon timing is exact: the message "The light of a full moon peaks through the clouds" appears exactly 54 minutes and 2 seconds after server creation, the full moon lasts 11 minutes and 17 seconds, and its peak occurs 6 minutes 48 seconds after the message. Resonance strategies were built around this.
- At V4's launch, a bug allowed players to fill the Awakening gauge by farming
Bandits in the
First Sea. Quickly patched: Update 19 also reduced transformation duration and energy gained from other players. - If a glitch prevents you from interacting with the clock after a successful Trial, you still receive the awakening (if it's your first Trial) and your race's title.
- Draco's awakening came later than the others, with Update 24.
