The full moon (Full Moon) returns every eight in-game nights, roughly 180 minutes, or about 54 minutes after a server is created. It gates several major contents of the
Third Sea: Race Trials, the
Skull Guitar Puzzle, and
Kitsune Island. It also serves as an approximate indicator for the appearance of
Cursed Captain in
Second Sea. Two system messages announce its start and end, and they display in all three seas.
How to get it
Nothing to unlock, you just need to be there at the right time. Two system messages help you not miss it: "The light of a full moon peaks through the clouds." when it starts, "The full moon ends." when it ends. The most reliable method to trigger one remains a freshly launched private server, detailed below.
How it works
- A full moon returns every 8 in-game nights, roughly 180 minutes, and the first one falls about 54 minutes after server creation.
- Right after a full moon ends, count 160 to 193 minutes before the next one.
- When a server starts, the moon is always set to First Quarter.
- The moon changes phase each night. Since the game takes place in the southern hemisphere, the cycle is reversed for players in the northern hemisphere: after a full moon comes the Waning Gibbous during the day, then the Third Quarter at the next sunrise.

These announcements display in all seas, including First and Second Sea, while all full moon-related content is found in Third Sea. In First and Second Sea, they serve little purpose.
Finding a full moon
- You arrive during the day: ask in chat, or lower your graphics quality to 1 and fly very high in the air, or head out to sea until the ground and islands disappear. You can then look at the moon and check its phase.
- Server hop: look for a First Quarter or a Waxing Gibbous. These two phases require only 15 minutes of waiting, giving you time to reach Temple of Time for the trials, find Kitsune Island, or get to Haunted Castle.
- Private server: the most reliable method. The first full moon always arrives about 55 minutes after the server launches, with the first phase being First Quarter. The owner just has to relaunch their server after each full moon to guarantee one every 55 minutes.
- Warning: the private server only works if it was just created when you join it. If it was already running with other players, the calculation falls apart. On a private server in normal waiting, count roughly two nights.
Good to know
- The game's announcement contains a typo: it writes "peaks" instead of "peek".
- A full moon image lights up when you find the Blue Gear.
- The source describes a gap of roughly 180 minutes between two full moons, but measures 160 to 193 minutes from the end of the previous one. Take these numbers as an order of magnitude, not as a second-by-second timer.
