Flying is the most practical means of transport in the game: it lets you cross the sea without a boat and without taking water damage. To fly, you need to eat a
Blox Fruit with a flight ability, almost always placed on the [F] key. The Angel race in awakened V4 and the V2 passive of
Draco also allow you to glide and hover, though Draco's is only temporary.
How to get it
Eat a Blox Fruit that has a flying move, usually the [F]. Otherwise, go through the
Angel race in awakened V4, or through the flight passive of Draco V2, which only lasts a limited time.
Fruits that can fly
Twenty-one fruits provide true flight:
Light,
Sand, awakened
Magma,
Flame,
Eagle,
Phoenix,
Dragon,
Love, non-awakened
Spider,
Ghost,
Smoke,
Spin,
Blade,
Gravity,
Shadow,
Venom,
Spirit,
Blizzard,
Sound, non-transformed Gas and
Rocket.
Two others come close without really being flight: awakened Spider and
Spring.
| Record | Fruit |
|---|---|
| Fastest flight | Dragon in transformed Western form |
| Second fastest | Awakened Light |
| Slowest flights | Non-awakened Smoke and Sand |
| Shortest flight | Shadow, 9 seconds total |
| Most versatile for camping in the air | Love: low cooldown, possible healing while flying, usable while attacking, change direction or stop in place |
Note: Non-awakened Light is the only flight in the game unable to turn.
Speed depends on your HP
- For the vast majority of fruits, flight speed follows your HP bar: the more wounded you are, the slower you go.
- Four exceptions do the opposite: Venom, Gas, Blade and Sound. The lower your HP, the faster you go. Very useful for escaping after a combo that left you in the red.
- Most fruits don't regenerate HP or
Energy while flying.
Heavenly Blood gets around this, but only for V3.
Flights limited in time
- Some flights cut out on their own. Typical example: the [F] Beast Ride of awakened Magma, which drops you after 30 seconds.
- Shadow holds the opposite record, with only 9 seconds of flight.
Flying and dealing damage
- Several flights deal damage during or right after movement: Venom, Blizzard, Shadow, Smoke via its smoke bombs, awakened Magma on impact and awakened Phoenix.
- Dragon and Gas can also charge into an opponent with their [F], but damage remains low.
- Phoenix's flight consumes Energy, unlike others.
- Warning, the source contradicts itself here: it explains that these flights are limited in time specifically to prevent infinite damage, then mentions a few words later Smoke, Blizzard and Phoenix as capable of inflicting unlimited damage. Take with caution.
Fake flights and alternatives
- Not all [F] keys make you fly: the [F] Ice Skating of awakened Ice, the [F] Magma Floor of non-awakened Magma and the [F] Retribution Dash of awakened
Buddha stay on the ground. - The only move outside [F] that beats all flights in the game is the [C] of
Portal: instant teleportation over very long distance. It doesn't cover the entire map, for example the
Temple of Time, but teleporting to the
Great Tree and climbing is often faster than flying there. - With an auto-clicker, the M1 of
Electric Claw and Blade allow gliding: Electric Claw's pushes the player forward, Blade's has a very short cooldown. Same effect with
Dragon Breath,
Dragon Talon,
T-Rex,
Kitsune,
Pain and
Canvander, less efficiently for those that only dash on the fourth click. - The [X] of
Control can send a boat, you aboard, extremely high. It's not really flight: it goes up, then falls back down.
Good to know
- Flying avoids buying a Boat and removes water damage: it's often the first reason to keep a mobility fruit.
- A player in fast flight is very difficult to hit, and some flights don't even get interrupted by incoming damage.
