The Ghoul is the vampire race in the game: life steal on combat styles, boosted speed at night and
Heightened Senses, a versatile buff that even reduces your cooldown times. It's a bit a mix of all races, ideal if you want a balanced profile built for survival and long fights, with life steal that becomes monstrous once awakened to V4.
How to get it
The Ghoul is obtained from
Experimic: it's one of three races in the game unlocked by quest. Once obtained, you can return to it whenever you want without paying anything again (like
Draco). - V1: brings 100
Ectoplasm and 1
Hellfire Torch (random drop obtained by beating a raid boss). - V2: bought from the
Alchemist, like all races except Draco. - V3: kill 5 players level 700 or higher. You don't need to collect their bounty, but suspicious kills don't count; you can kill the same player multiple times and
Friendly PvP mode works. A bug sometimes skips a kill: plan for one or two extra. - V4: complete the
Trial of Carnage.
Versions V1 to V3
| Tier | Buffs | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| V1 | Slightly increased HP regeneration and +30% running speed at night | Small black horns |
| V2 | Activates | No change |
| V3 | Unlocks Heightened Senses (see below) | Horns lengthen |
Heightened Senses (V3) in detail
While the ability is active:
- +5% damage, +20% speed and +15% defense.
- Your cooldowns are accelerated: you can relaunch your moves as soon as they have less than 40% cooldown remaining (M1s are not affected).
- Lasts 8 seconds, universal cooldown of 30 seconds.
It's one of the most versatile buffs in the game: damage, speed and defense all at once, with moves that are almost spammable. Perfect for turning around a fight in PvP.
Race Awakening (V4)
Ancient Powers (transformation): max stats, +10% damage, speed and HP regeneration, and all skills with less than 40% cooldown remaining are reset.
| Gear | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Siphon | All your attacks steal life, in addition to the V2 passive: ~10% on NPCs, ~24% on players (~48% with a combat style) | Life steal greatly increased: ~17% on NPCs, ~38% on players (~60% with a combat style) |
| Domain Expansion | A dark field surrounds you: slows enemies, nearly cancels their regeneration (to the point they regain 1 HP at a time) and partially blinds them. Your night passives activate even during the day and your cooldowns drop by about 40% (estimate) | Your dashes summon ravens that attack nearby enemies; the field's range increases |
Visually: a bright red halo with spikes appears; in transformation, six black wings grow from your back.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- A true mix of all races: regeneration (
Angel), speed at night (
Rabbit), defense (
Shark/
Cyborg) and damage (
Human/Cyborg). The right choice if you can't decide. - Life steal makes long fights, bosses and
Raids much easier: excellent with
Buddha. - Heightened Senses reduces your cooldowns by almost half (-40%): very spammable moves and easy comebacks in PvP, with good mobility once combined with night speed.
- Domain Expansion: day speed at Rabbit level with certain accessories, ravens that consume enemy
Instinct (up to emptying it during a combo, and able to hit sky campers up to a certain height), and damage while dashing around the target: chaining dashes deals a lot of damage in seconds. - Blood Siphon can reduce the effectiveness of Draco's Thorn Mail (at the cost of life steal on this damage).
- You can return to the Ghoul race whenever you want, for free.
Weaknesses
- Night passives are cut during the day, except with Domain Expansion (Tier 1 or higher).
- The V2 Life Leech only works with combat styles, and heals 5 times less on NPCs.
- Tedious to obtain: the Hellfire Torch is a random drop from raid bosses.
- Defense from Heightened Senses remains fairly weak.
- Blood Siphon doesn't guarantee big heals: life steal can be minimal at times.
- Domain Expansion is countered by keeping your distance, requires chaining dashes around the enemy, and its dark effects can hinder your own allies.
Tips
- Pair Ghoul with Buddha, and add the
Sanguine Art style to stack even more life steal: an almost immortal combo in Raids and farming. - A Ghoul V3 equipped with
Dino Hood runs faster than a
Rabbit V3 with the
Pilot Helmet. - Awakening V4 resets all moves with less than 40% cooldown remaining: transform at the right time to start with your skills available.
- V3 doesn't bypass the automatic cooldown imposed on (V) moves when you spawn in game.
Did you know?
- Trial of Carnage is generally the most popular V4 trial, to the point that trials sometimes fail to launch.
- Ghoul is the only race that resets all moves on awakening, fitting its V3 skill logic.
- In activated V4, black skulls float above the player: the Ghoul's spooky theme assumed all the way.
- The race received many nerfs and buffs that went almost unnoticed after the Race Awakenings update release.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Life steal makes long fights and bosses much easier (excellent with Buddha)
- Heightened Senses reduces your cooldowns by almost half: very strong for chaining moves in PvP
- Balanced profile: regeneration, night speed, defense and damage all at once
- You can return to the Ghoul race whenever you want, without paying anything
- Very good against multiple opponents thanks to permanent healing
- Night passives are cut during the day (except with V4 gear Domain Expansion)
- Life Leech V2 only works with combat styles
- Tedious to obtain: the Hellfire Torch is a random drop from raid bosses
- Rather weak base defense
Our take
The best choice if you want to go the distance: life steal + cooldown reduction make it a comebacks machine. Perfect with Buddha for farming, and formidable in PvP fights that drag on.
