Dragon Talon

Fighting Style

Dragon Talon is the direct successor to Dragon Breath, learned from Uzoth at the Dragon Dojo, in Third Sea. Its attacks resemble those of the Dragon fruit: close-range combat, very high damage, massive areas, burns and violent screen shaking that distorts the view. In exchange, it is slower than most other styles, making it primarily a style for Raids, Dungeons and Sea Events. It's also the one with the most powerful M1s in the game, and one of the styles required for Godhuman. Remember to disable screen shake in the options: with this style, it changes everything.

How to get it

From Uzoth, at the Dragon Dojo (Third Sea). You need:

  1. to have given the Fire Essence to Uzoth,
  2. 400 Mastery minimum on Dragon Breath,
  3. 3,000,000 Beli,
  4. 5,000 Fragments.

At 400+ Mastery, Dragon Talon is among the prerequisites for Godhuman. At 500+, you can interact with the Dojo Trainer, which opens the path to upgrades. The source adds that Draco requires Dragonstorm and Dragonheart both at 500 Mastery, without further details.

Moveset

KeyMovePreviewDescription
M1 Scorching Fists Three flaming claw strikes that leave a dragon-shaped footprint mark, then a dash concluded by a two-handed charge, also marked. These are the most powerful M1s in the game, but the fourth strike pushes you forward, which complicates grinding.
Z Talon Lighter
Mas. 125
You ignite your hand and dash toward your cursor. If you catch an enemy, you grab them, light their flames from the inside (they turn from orange to blue) then send them flying with a kick. Hold the key to extend the range. Upgraded, it triggers a finisher on a low-health target: a barrage of burning punches that pierce them, then a spinning kick that cuts them down. This finisher bypasses all defensive passives and all resurrections, Pain and Ghost included: if health is low enough, the target dies, period. Cooldown 7.5 s, 30 Energy.
X Ember Annihilation
Mas. 250
On tap, you send a fire dragon-shaped projectile toward your cursor: it drags the hit enemy while dealing damage, then explodes on contact with a surface or at the end of its path, leaving flames on the ground that burn over time. You can steer it toward your cursor after firing. Upgraded and held, you ride it and pilot it, before jumping off or letting it hit the target. The stun depends on travel time: launched on the ground with no travel, it blocks your opponent for about 3 seconds. Cooldown 10 s, 40 Energy.
C Infernal Vortex
Mas. 350
You leap very high for a second before crashing down with enormous force: devastating area damage, heavy knockback on everything in the radius and screen turns orange. Upgraded, it also stuns nearby enemies from the start. Long startup time, but very easy to land. Cooldown 17 s, 75 Energy.

Upgrades (Blaze Embers)

Starting at 500 Mastery, get the Dojo Belt (Blue) from the Dojo Trainer by completing his fifth quest. Then go find Blaze Embers by doing the Dragon Hunter quest, then return to Uzoth to upgrade the moves one by one.

MoveBlaze EmbersWhat it adds
[Z] Talon Lighter5A finishing execution move when the target is at low health
[X] Ember Annihilation7Held, you ride the fire dragon projectile
[C] Infernal Vortex10Stuns nearby enemies from the start of the move

Upgrading everything costs 22 Blaze Embers total. Unlike Sharkman Karate, these upgrades cannot be disabled once applied.

Against Instinct

MoveBreaks InstinctAvoidable with InstinctDetails
[Z] Talon LighterYesYesBreaks Instinct on the first impact if it's direct. Can be ken-tricked during the move, and is avoided if contact is indirect.
[X] Ember AnnihilationYesYesBreaks Instinct at close range, on the first impact and on the flames. The rest of the time, Instinct is enough to avoid it.
[C] Infernal VortexYesNoThe explosion breaks Instinct no matter what. Only way out: ken-trick the phase where it carries you, by activating Instinct at the top.

Tips and Techniques

  • Two moves at once: well-timed, you can launch the [Z] then hold [X] to ride the dragon while burning your target. This only works with the upgraded version, and it's a glitch: it might not work for you, and could disappear in the next update.
  • The Dragon Talon 360: launch [X], then change your character's orientation to loop the projectile and pull your opponent toward you. In practice, aim [X] upward and, while it rises, orient the camera toward the ground under your feet. Chain with [C] as a combo finisher.
  • The stun from [X] depends on its travel time: the longer the dragon travels, the less it stuns. Used on the ground with no travel, it prevents the opponent from dashing or using an ability for about 3 seconds. That's the ideal window to land a slow but huge move, like Lightning's [V] or Flame's [V].
  • Known bug: [Z] Talon Lighter can launch very high players with large-sized avatars.

Trivia

  • It's the fighting style with the most powerful M1s in the game, and its M1s leave a dragon-shaped footprint mark on the ground.
  • The sound effects for its M1s come from the flaming M1s of Dragon Breath, of which it is the successor.
  • The finisher of [Z] is a guaranteed kill: it bypasses all resurrections (Ghost and Pain passives, but also Friendly PvP revive), all defenses (Shark V3, Cyborg V3), all heals (Phoenix's [X], Angel V3) and Instinct trick. It can even chain through Cyborg's awakened energy passives. Shadow also has a finisher, on its [C]: the target bursts on contact.
  • Contrary to what's often said, the head seen during [Z] is that of the T-Rex, not the West Dragon. Since [X] uses the East Dragon model and [C] resembles the East Dragon's transformed [X], the style was probably finished before the West Dragon.
The East Dragon model, reused for the [X] Ember Annihilation.
The T-Rex head, used for the [Z] Talon Lighter.
  • By launching [X] against a thin wall, like the Ice Castle's, you have a small chance of passing through.
  • Another bug: using [C] while swimming instantly drains all your health, even with Shark V2 or better. This sometimes happens out of water too.
  • Depending on when you Instinct-trick the [Z], you either take its normal knockback or a simple move exit, like on most attacks.
  • Dragon Talon is the first V2 fighting style that can be upgraded, followed by Sharkman Karate.
  • It's the favorite style of Uzoth (Player), content creator and admin, who made it famous.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • Large hitboxes and large area-of-effect zones
  • Very high damage, and the most powerful M1s in the game
  • Strong combo potential
  • All upgrades strengthen the style with no drawbacks
  • Excellent visual effects
  • Heavy knockback on Lava Golems, useful for protecting the Ancient Relic
  • [Z]: also serves as mobility, since holding it lets you advance further, and its hitbox is good
  • [Z] upgraded: the finisher ignores all defenses and all resurrection passives
  • [X]: long range, curves toward the enemy at your cursor and drags them over a good distance while you chain attacks
  • [X]: very high stun, up to 3 seconds when launched on the ground
  • [X] upgraded: the flight is fast, making it a true mobility tool
  • [C]: very easy to land, huge vertical hitbox, ejects your opponent to get you out of a combo, and stuns once upgraded
  • Hard to obtain: Fire Essence, Dragon Breath 400, 3,000,000 Beli and 5,000 Fragments
  • Short range, and a style overall slower than most others
  • Weak at sea
  • Heavy knockback that launches both NPCs and players: painful grinding and opponents who escape
  • The fourth M1 pushes you forward, which complicates grinding
  • Impossible to disable the upgrades, unlike Sharkman Karate
  • [Z]: single target, small hitbox hard to hit, and weak damage for a fighting style [Z]
  • [Z]: no i-frames, heavy knockback, and its long finishers make kill stealing easy
  • [Z]: poorly adapted to Buddha, whose size and hitbox force you to aim downward
  • [X]: fairly slow, so very weak at medium range, and its upgraded flight doesn't last long
  • [C]: long startup time, and its distortion effect can quickly become annoying

Our take

PvE7/10
PvP8/10

Get it as soon as Dragon Breath reaches 400: it's an excellent dueling style, one of the five required for Godhuman, and its upgrades are worth the effort if you plan to keep it.
