Prehistoric Island is a rare marine event and a mandatory passage in the
Third Sea: it's where you obtain
Dragonheart,
Dragonstorm, the
Dino Hood, the
T-Rex Skull, the
Draco race and its
Race Awakening, the
Dragon Egg, and even, with a slim chance, the
Dragon fruit. It has no cooldown: you can repeat it as many times as you find it, even on the same server. Players commonly call it "PH".
How to get it
Sail at
Sea Danger Level 6 and keep exploring until the island appears, day or night (daytime is just more comfortable for sailing). It can spawn without a
Volcanic Magnet, but having one in the group drastically increases the chances - and only one player on the boat needs it, not necessarily the pilot, the item just needs to be in their inventory. The island despawns as soon as there's no one on it (even if it just appeared), or if the player who made it appear leaves the game.
The
Volcano Event
Interact with the Fossil
Ancient Relic (the large
T-Rex skull on the ground in front of the volcano, not to be confused with the Ancient Relic from the
Saber puzzle) to launch a cutscene and then the event: 5 minutes to manage two fronts at the same time.
Volcano pressure: destroy the orange effects and flames that appear on the volcano, with damage and moves that have
Destructible Physics.- The Relic:
Lava Golems attack it continuously, prevent them from touching it.
The two happen simultaneously, so the simplest is to split into two groups, one per task. Only one player on each is enough; solo, it's very hard.
If the relic's health drops to zero, the message "The relic has been fully destroyed" appears and all participants die, regardless of their HP.
Rewards
Dinosaur Bones: when the timer runs out, collect as many bones as possible on the ground near the relic, as quickly as possible. 5 appear per player present on the island when the event launches. The
Fossil Expert, who only appears on this island, transforms them into unique accessories like the T-Rex Skull and the Dino Hood.- Dragon Egg: placed next to the Fossil Ancient Relic, it's used for the Draco race, for weapon crafting, and to unlock Mythical-rarity Dragon skin recipes. Collecting it can, very rarely, give you the Dragon fruit (East or West variant). You need to have learned
Dragon Tether from the
Dragon Wizard to be able to grab it, you can only get one per Volcano Event, and it doesn't appear if the relic's health dropped below 90% by the end of the event.
Trial of Flames: once the Volcano Event is succeeded, the entrance to the Prehistoric Cave (below the Fossil Expert) opens. Draco players can get the V4 of the race there and upgrade it, but only one player per island can do the Trial. A black door also opens in a cave, unlockable only with the Draco race.
Tips
- Drink 4
Lava Potions before launching the event: total freedom of movement, zero risk, the event becomes very easy. - Efficient spawn strategy: one boat only, a pilot with the Volcanic Magnet and ideally the
Portal fruit to despawn
Terrorsharks and other Sea Danger Level 6 events with the [V]
Dimensional Rift. Once you find the island, open a portal to
Tiki Outpost without entering it yourself (use your mobility moves) to teleport 2 or 3 allies there. - Another approach: fly over all marine events with
The Sentinel in a small group (2 to 8 players recommended), each with a Volcanic Magnet in inventory. - Role distribution: two players minimum, it's strongly recommended. If you're only two, give the volcano pressure to whoever has the most explosive moves, and the golems to the other. The ideal combination is still a
Buddha with a sword on the golems, and a player with a flight ability (the [F] of
Phoenix or Dragon for example) on the volcano. - For the pressure: a fruit with flight (
Eagle,
Light,
Magma) goes around the volcano very quickly. Without a flight move, the
Skull Guitar is perfect, even without maxing it, because its M1 has Destructible Physics.
Cannon and
Bazooka work too. - For the golems: prioritize moves with stun, with zone, and without cast animation, to dodge easily and pull them far from the relic. You can also hit them toward the beach: they stay stuck there and stop threatening the relic.
- Possible solos:
Creation (build a wall around the relic in build mode, but not too close, or the golems hit through it); Awakened Buddha (its [C] Light of Annihilation covers almost the entire front face of the volcano, remember to move if cracks appear at the back); Buddha +
Sanguine Art + Skull Guitar (the long-range M1 of Sanguine Art keeps the golems at distance while the M1 of the Skull Guitar destroys the lava); Dragon by alternating hybrid form (golems on M1) and full form ([C] Scorching Downfall on the cracks), watching the fury gauge;
Gravity, whose M1s are used in flight and have Destructible Physics - just remember to use the meteor strike version properly. - In duo, the classic combo: a Buddha on the golems, a
Dough who travels the volcano with its [F] Scorching Donut to manage the pressure. - Be careful when healing near the top: there's still lava on the sides and above.
Good to Know
- The lava at the top of the volcano kills very fast, even with Magma or
Tiger equipped. - Only players close to the island when the relic is activated count for rewards. Arriving partway through gives nothing, even if you contributed a lot - and being brought via Portal's Dimensional Rift after launch doesn't count either.
- Dying before the end prevents you from seeing the Dinosaur Bones and Dragon Egg.
- You need 4 Dragon Eggs total to unlock Dragonheart, Dragonstorm, and the Draco race, that's 5 visits: one first to learn Dragon Tether, then 4 for the eggs. You can drop to 4 visits if an ally brings you back to the island with Portal's [C] move right after you learn Dragon Tether.
- The event can be spawned and completed solo, but it's not recommended.
- No cooldown: you can repeat the event as many times as you want, even on the same server.
Did You Know?
- The island has no despawn timer: it stays as long as there's someone on it.
- The volcano eruption is an Admin Ability named "Draconic Incandescence of the Vermilion Firmament".
- Players commonly call it "PH".
- Before the "12-player glitch" fix, Prehistoric Island (and other rare marine events) could appear at any Sea Danger Level.
- Two songs accompany the island: Haunted Halls when calm, Magmatic Antiquity during the event.
- Known bugs: before update 29.5, the volcano pressure and relic health weren't displayed - when in doubt, prevent the relic from taking damage entirely and destroy the lava as soon as it appears. Another bug, still current according to the source page, causes the event to sometimes not start, even after interacting with the relic.
Our take
The most profitable marine event in the Third Sea for everything related to Dragon and the Draco race.
