The Sea Beast is a marine mini-boss that can appear while you're sailing in the
Second Sea or
Third Sea. It comes in several colors (green, brown, red, blue) and its total health depends on the number of players near its spawn point. Immune to most M1s, it dies to special moves and gives a nice amount of
Fragments and Beli.
How to get it
Appears randomly when you're on a boat: small chance in Second Sea (even while stationary, no need to actively pilot), slightly higher in Third Sea at
Sea Danger Level 1-6, where multiple can emerge at once. Don't confuse it with
Rumbling Waters: during that event, the text <Rumbling Waters> appears at the top of your screen and heavy rain falls. The Sea Beast can also be summoned (by the
Tide Keeper with 20k HP, via
Summon Sea Beast at 10M bounty/honor with HP based on your level, during
Shark V4's
Trial of Water or during
Phoenix raids), but these versions don't drop anything.

Health Points and Damage
Its total health depends on the number of players near the spawn point:
Sea Events.| Players Nearby | Sea Beast HP |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100,000 |
| 2 | 125,000 |
| 3 | 150,000 |
| 4 and more | 175,000 |
Damage-wise: Deadly Shower goes up to 2,100, Water Beam deals 1,500 and Roaring Beast 500.
Its 4 Attacks
| Attack | What it does | How to React |
|---|---|---|
| Deadly Shower | Rain of large, fast water projectiles (like the old X of | Easy to dodge at sea: the projectiles are spaced out, move by dashing or swimming. The boss stays frozen during the entire animation, take advantage to attack. The entire move can be dodged with |
| Water Beam | It charges then fires a blue beam dealing about 1,500 damage that knocks you backward. | At the sound of the charge, activate Instinct then cut it right after, to avoid wasting dodges or breaking your Instinct. |
| Roaring Beast | Short-range AoE roar: damage, stun and breaks your Instinct. Same sound effect as the F of awakened | If it freezes and raises its head, cut your Instinct: the roar is coming. |
| Dive | It submerges briefly: invisible and untouchable, no move or M1 can hurt it. | Save your energy and wait for it to surface again. |

- Multiple players can loot a Fist of Darkness from the SAME Sea Beast, as long as each does enough damage.
- Summoned Sea Beasts (Tide Keeper, Summon Sea Beast, Trial of Water, Phoenix raids) don't drop anything.
- Big farm note: in Third Sea, Sea Beasts and Rumbling Waters give tons of money, and they're even more frequent the higher your Sea Danger Level. With x2 money, a Rumbling Waters gives about 1,200,000 Beli.
Immune to M1s: what still works
The Sea Beast only takes special moves: unlike most aggressive
NPCs, it's immune to almost all M1s. The exceptions that still hit:
- Weapons: Explosive Guns,
Blade
Fruits:
Bomb,
Eagle,
Rubber,
Lightning,
Pain,
Diamond,
Gravity (all types and stages), Phoenix (transformed and awakened M1),
Mammoth (transformed),
T-Rex (base and transformed),
Dough (awakened M1), Gas (base and transformed),
Tiger and
Werewolf (transformed and Blazing Form),
Yeti (transformed),
Magnet (base and transformed),
Kitsune and
Empyrean (base and Full Form),
Dragon (base, Hybrid Form and Full Form),
Control (touching the lower part, near the water)
Warning: some single-target special moves don't work either, like
Shadow's Z.
The ideal setup
- Fruits: since Update 28, the best are Magma, Pain, Gas, Kitsune, Yeti, Mammoth,
Blizzard and Tiger (M1s of Gas, Kitsune and Tiger hit on all 5 clicks). Magma remains the highest DPS; Mammoth's transformed F (Stampede) does huge damage over time; Blizzard shines with its AoEs (V and F Tornado Flight); Lightning explodes large targets with its extended X Thunderstorm into Z. Awakened Phoenix can heal you with Blue Flames while hurting the boss (
Cyborg V2 helps recover energy by blocking). Ice and awakened Magma work on water; some even de-awaken Magma's F for its more consistent damage (limited to Shark V2+, the boss can push you underwater). Awakened
Buddha has its transformed hitbox above water, but avoid it if your weapons don't hit hard: its M1s, its main strength, are useless here. Fully awakened with stats plus
Dragon Talon,
Sharkman Karate or
Sanguine Art, it becomes solid again.
Swords:
Shark Anchor (most effective and easy to get, strong Z at good range),
Saber (perfect for beginners, even if its Z was nerfed),
Cursed Dual Katana (excellent mobility but hard to get, finicky hitbox),
True Triple Katana (big damage, big hitboxes).- Combat Styles: Sanguine Art (long range, big damage);
Death Step and
Electric Claw also work since Update 20. - Race: V4 is monstrous here (max stats on your entire moveset: fruit, sword, style and gun, so total spam). Shark V2 and above immunizes you to water damage;
Water Body and Leviathan Armor (awakened race) boost survival even more, especially against multiple Sea Beasts.
Accessories:
Leviathan Shield (90% protection against sea damage, 30% defense against Sea Events, +1,000 HP);
Leviathan Crown or
Shark Tooth Necklace to hit harder on Sea Events.- Boat: high HP (
Grand Brigade) or small hitbox (
Miracle, watch out for other events that can sink it). You can also park the boat further away: it won't take damage and no other Sea Event will bother you during the fight.
Combat Strategies
- Activate Instinct ONLY to dodge Water Beams: the roar breaks it and other attacks drain your dodges.
- Stay high in the air: a Water Beam can push you underwater and kill you.
- Learn to read the boss: if it suddenly turns toward you and leans back, or if you hear its charge sound, a Water Beam is coming. If it freezes with its head raised, it's the roar: cut your Instinct.
- When you back up to heal, don't go too far if you're out of dodges: the Water Beam has very long range, but at close range it prefers Deadly Shower and the roar, easier to dodge or tank.
- Against a group (Rumbling Waters): focus ONE Sea Beast at a time, throw some long-range moves at the others occasionally to keep them from despawning, and place your big AoEs (Blizzard V, Dough C) at the center of the group. Blizzard F, Dough, awakened Magma or Mammoth F fill your cooldowns. The reworked Bomb C makes soloing a Rumbling Waters almost too easy.
- In Third Sea, stay under Sea Danger Level 3:
Terrorshark and other events destroy your boat quickly. - If you're immune to water (Shark V2, Ice, awakened Magma...), move away from your boat to draw attacks on yourself: the trajectory of shots will spare your ship and you can chain events with the same boat, ideal in Third Sea.
Did You Know?
- The Sea Beast despawns if you stay out of range for about 30 seconds, or automatically after 15 minutes.
- Killing one is required to unlock Shark V3.
- Impossible to see it with Instinct... but its attacks are still dodgeable with it.
- Its theme is called Haunted Halls: the same one as in
Dark Arena, on
Treasure Island, on an inactive
Prehistoric Island or during Rumbling Waters. - Multiple Sea Beasts can appear in Second Sea without it being a Rumbling Waters: no rain, and it's the <Sea Beast> text that appears. And by extremely rare chance, 3 Sea Beasts can spawn naturally at once.
- It roars when appearing, handy for spotting it by ear. Warning: the F of awakened Magma has a very similar sound (shorter, higher-pitched), easy to get fooled.
- Its current model dates from Update 17.2, remade by @SIRL_, a Brazilian creator who reworked the game's models in 17.3. Before the rework, you could walk on its head; and before 17.1, it was considered a real boss, Sea Events didn't exist yet.
- "SB" is its common abbreviation ("sb hunt" = going to hunt Sea Beasts).
- A bug sometimes prevents you from getting title #114 "The Beast" after killing 25 Sea Beasts.
- Sanguine Art's Z hurts it thanks to bats, but doesn't heal you.
Our take
Essential farm at sea: a good amount of Fragments and Beli, very easy with an AoE fruit like Magma and a sturdy boat.
