Secrets Master

NPC

The Secrets Master, often written Secret Master, is the NPC added by Update 30 to guide you through the First Sea island secrets. Standing on the first floor balcony of Middle Town's central building, he shares "secrets" that are not really secrets, tells you which boss is about to awaken and where, and he is the one who hands Advanced Combat to the player who completes that fighting style's puzzle.

How to get it

He is located in the central building of Middle Town, in the First Sea, on the first floor balcony. It is the same building that houses the island secrets teleporter.

What he does

  • He gives you miscellaneous facts about the First Sea, his famous "secrets" (list below).
  • He tells you the next boss to awaken in the sea, on which island and in how many minutes. Awakened bosses are enhanced versions of the regular bosses, and they appear at the start of every hour.
  • When to visit him: during the final half hour of every hour. That is when he announces the boss that will awaken at the next hour (9:30 to 10:00 p.m. for the 10 p.m. boss). This figure has moved: ten minutes until 24 September 2026, then twenty minutes on his page, then thirty since the evening of 25 September; on 26 September the source's three pages (Secrets Master, Island Secrets, Awakened Bosses) all say the same. Come too early and he answers "Nothing is stirring right now": come back a little later.
  • The announced boss differs between servers. On a private server, simply leave and rejoin until he announces the boss you are looking for.
  • According to the patch notes, he himself hides a secret: that is the "Tell me some stories" option, detailed below.

Dialogue options and their conditions

OptionWhen it appears

Tell me some storiesOnly when all island secrets are completed, that is 3 stars on every island of the First Sea, 39 stars in total
NevermindAlways

A note on the same page adds that you must be level 2800 (the maximum without secret levels) to see the next boss option, otherwise only the "Tell me a secret" option shows. The source does not say whether the two conditions stack.

The Middle Town hint line is finally published. It had been marked as "to be announced" since release. Pick "I heard you know a helpful secret about Middle Town" and they answer:

"There are some devs that live on this island! I wanna meet them so bad, but I'm sure they're busy, working hard on their game..."

That is indeed the hint for Middle Town's Early Access secret: the "devs that live on this island" are Janus, the developer you find by breaking the window of the tester's house. The dialogue ends there, the only option left is to exit.

The line that follows the announcement

The dialogue does not end on "Keep this between us...". Keep going and he gives one last line. It never names the boss, it describes its island. On Upper Skylands, where both Sky Warlord and Lightning God can awaken, that line is the only way to know which one is waiting before you make the trip.

LineBoss announcedIsland

"It's a nice day on Upper skylands..."Lightning GodUpper Skylands

The lowercase spelling "skylands" is the source's own, copied as it is.

There is no line for Fishman Lord (Underwater City) or Cyborg (Fountain City). The source marked them as to be announced on 25 September 2026, then settled it on the 26th: he adds nothing for these two bosses. The announcement stops at the island, which is enough since each is the only one to awaken on his. The Prison line (Warden) was published on 25 September 2026.

Outside the announcement window there is no island line at all: he answers "Nothing is stirring right now. Even the monsters need a rest." and the dialogue ends.

His twelve secrets

These are nods and jokes, not quest hints - but careful, they describe real facts about the game (see the check below). The list is now complete: twelve lines, against nine published and one unknown until today.

  1. "There was probably a third island in the 'Desert' region that was mined into oblivion to get enough sand for that massive pyramid."
  2. "Some people have been seeing weird things. Really strange concerning things - like boxes in their field of view. These boxes tell them things like their health, their energy, and sometimes even how angry they are! Creepy stuff."
  3. "To upgrade a slingshot you need the wings of an angel, and skin of a cow. Two materials of equal worth. Apparently."
  4. "The Boat Dealer is likely nearing bankruptcy. Their 'Free Dinghy' promotion does not make any economic sense. How can they afford to give a free ship away to every person who asks?"
  5. "The lack of thumbs on anyone means the Emperor can never spare or condemn any gladiators in the Colosseum. The secret here is that there's apparently an emperor. What do you mean 'what are thumbs?'?"
  6. "We're facing a biodiversity crisis on the Jungle island. If you look closely, many of the trees are the exact same!"
  7. "The Dual Katana is a scam, they'll sell you a single Katana for $1,000 fine... But - ask em for a second and SUDDENLY it's $12,000! They've played us for absolute fools."
  8. "There's rumor that a meme is going around where deranged people are eating traffic cones. What a ridiculous thing to do."
  9. "The Skylands waterfall pond is actually replenished through secret pipes running through the cloud bridges - what... Did you think it was magic?"
  10. "Smoke Fruit is technically also Gas Fruit, just uh, less cool."
  11. "I always get Ghost Fruit and Spirit Fruit mixed up. Don't tell anyone."
  12. "Some people claim that Lightning Fruit used to be called Rumble Fruit - most think they've just misremembered. I can't help but wonder if those are memories leaking in from a parallel reality."

What they actually hide.

  • Line 3 is a real recipe, verified. Upgrading the Slingshot costs exactly 5 Leather (the cow skin) and 5 Angel Wings. "Two materials of equal worth" is the joke about the matching quantities. So it is not a riddle to solve: it is the in-game cost.
  • Line 12 is true as well: the Rumble fruit really was renamed Lightning. On the official wiki, "Rumble" now redirects to "Lightning". The NPC is poking fun at the rename by passing it off as a false memory.
  • The "boxes in their field of view" (line 2) are the Health bar, the Energy bar and the Human V4 rage meter ("how angry they are"). Until 4 October 2026 the source spoke more broadly of Race V4 meters.
  • The Katana "scam" (line 7) rests on the real prices: Katana 1,000 Beli, Dual Katana 12,000, Triple Katana 60,000.
  • The cone eaters (line 8) point at the Meme and Meme (Admin) fruits.
  • Line 5 announced the Colosseum Emperor before he even had a page: he does exist, and he is the one who validates the Gladiatorial Combat secret.

None of these twelve lines mentions the Chef's cauldron or the 40th secret. I checked all twelve one by one.

Tell me some stories and Advanced Combat

This is the option that leads to Advanced Combat, and it only shows once all island secrets are completed, that is 39 stars. When you pick it, he tells you three rumors, each describing an island.

The thirteen stories, and the island each one points to. The source transcribed them on 11 September 2026: there is one per secret island, as many as the thirteen islands that count towards the 39 stars. He serves you three ("Three of them. Listen close, I'm not repeating myself."): "Tell me more" moves on to the next one, and the conversation stops after three stories. Talk to him again to read the others. None of them names the island outright, hence this lookup table (quotes as written by the source):

IslandWhat he says
Frozen Village"The Frozen Village is worth seeing, or so everyone keeps telling me. Nobody is ever specific about why. They mention the cold, and something that walks in it, and then they change the subject."
Desert"The Desert sits further from everything else than it has any right to. People come back from it quiet. Say the air feels wrong, like the place is holding its breath. They come back with relics too. Old ones. Older than the sea if you believe"
Skylands"Everyone chasing real wealth ends up looking upwards eventually. They say the Skylands is where you go to ascend. Treasure stacked in the clouds, just sitting there. Plenty make the climb. Fewer come back down to describe it."
Pirate Village"They say the restaurant in Pirate Village sees more fighting than the streets outside it. Crews walk in for a meal and settle everything they've been carrying, right there between the tables. Half the pirates on that island only stay for it. I'm told that's how the place got its name."
Underwater City"There's a city down there with air in it and nothing holding the water back. The sharkmen say it has always been that way and don't consider it a question worth asking. I consider it a question worth asking."
Colosseum"They still fight in the Colosseum. Every day, for no purse and no crowd. Someone set those rules down a very long time ago and nobody ever rescinded them. The fighters don't seem to know they're allowed to stop."
Fountain City"Fountain City has the tallest towers in the sea, and they named the place after a fountain. The story goes the fountain was there first. The city grew up around it. Whatever they were building toward, they built it around water"
Prison"Everything the sea couldn't hang, it buried in the Prison. The worst names anyone can remember, all in one place, and the doors still hold. Mostly. I'm told the Warden has stopped saying "all" when he counts them."
Jungle"The Gorilla King rules over exactly four gorillas. He was a king before that, apparently. Over something much larger. Whatever happened to the rest of it, the jungle grew over."
Marine Fortress"Be careful near the Marine Fortress. That isn't a garrison, it's a war engine. They say the sea goes quiet when its guns come out. Whatever the Vice Admiral keeps behind those walls, I don't think it's paperwork."
Magma Village"The Magma Village is built into a live volcano and the people there sleep fine. They say the mountain has been calm since the Admiral took residence. Nobody's willing to tell me if those two things are connected."
Upper Skylands"The ones who reach the Upper Skylands say the riches are real. So are the ones guarding them. A civilization up there building things we still can't. And they didn't climb that high for the view."
Marine Starter (the island is not named, its Trainees are)"Word is every Marine stationed there is still listed as a trainee. Some of them have been drilling on that island longer than I've been alive. Whoever was meant to promote them stopped coming a long time ago."

Since 14 September 2026 the source has published the full puzzle; it rewrote it on the evening of the 16th in five steps (details and tips on the Advanced Combat entry):

  1. Pick "Tell me some stories" and remember the three islands described.
  2. Use the Middle Town teleporter to visit them in the order given. The water of the Middle Town fountain then turns off, for you only, and the "Tell me some stories" option disappears, across all servers (note on his page).
  3. Replay the teleporter cutscene by clicking, without teleporting, the thirteen islands in level order, from Starter Island to Fountain City. Step added by the source on the evening of 16 September 2026, a single appearance: to be confirmed.
  4. Have your fruit then your fighting style removed at Remove Blox Fruit, at the top of the Prison, to get back on Combat.
  5. Kill every awakened boss using Combat only. Each kill restores part of the fountain. Once the fountain is back to normal, the Secrets Master offers you Advanced Combat.

He then lets you swap back to Combat whenever you want: an "About that fighting style..." option joins his menu, he answers "You put the falls back the way they were. One fist, no shortcuts. So here's the last secret I got. Which will it be?" and you pick Advanced Combat or Combat.

Two corrections compared to what was read before. The fountain works the other way round from what was described: it empties first then fills back up with each boss killed, not the reverse. And the number of awakened bosses to kill is not 6: the source writes "every", without giving a total.

To be on Combat for step 5 you have to go through the Remove Blox Fruit NPC (50,000 Beli, after removing your fruit). The level 2995 once listed here is not a requirement: the source removed it on 15 September 2026 and has called it a myth since the 16th.

Good to know

This is the recommended starting point if you arrive in the First Sea after the overhaul: rather than searching the 16 islands randomly, visit him to find out where to look.

Do not confuse him with the Crypt Master, another unrelated NPC in the game.

Update history

NPC : Secrets Master·Released : Update 30

  1. Update 30 5 septembre 2026 Release
    • Added to the game with the First Sea rework, in Middle Town's central building.

    See update 30

  2. Update 30 14 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The source puts the "Tell me some stories" requirement at 39 stars and publishes the three step Advanced Combat puzzle: the Secrets Master is the one who hands over the style.

    See update 30

  3. Update 30 16 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The thirteen "Tell me some stories" tales are transcribed with the island each one points to (published by the source on 11 September 2026, one per secret island). Level 2995 is dropped from the Remove Blox Fruit requirements: the source calls it a myth.

    See update 30

  4. Update 30 16 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The Advanced Combat puzzle moves to five steps on the source: the "Tell me some stories" option disappears as soon as the teleports are done (his page confirms it, across all servers), a thirteen-island cutscene remains to be confirmed, and removing your fruit then your style at Remove Blox Fruit becomes a step of its own.

    See update 30

  5. Update 30 24 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • His source page raises the awakened boss announcement window from ten to twenty minutes before the hour, while the Awakened Bosses and Island Secrets pages still say ten: the article keeps ten minutes as the safe window and points out the gap.
    • "Tell me more" never goes past three stories in the same conversation.
    • The page now lists the ten bosses that can awaken, the same ten as the Awakened Bosses article; their announcement lines are still unwritten on the source.

    See update 30

  6. Update 30 24 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • Five of the ten announcement lines are published: Jungle (The Gorilla King), Pirate Village (Chef), Marine Fortress (Vice Admiral) and the two Upper Skylands ones, which finally tell Sky Warlord and Lightning God apart.
    • The "Which boss stirs next?" option does not end the dialogue: it leads to that island line.
    • The dialogue table still said "ten secrets" and "Middle Town line not documented yet", two points the rest of the article had already fixed.

    See update 30

  7. Update 30 25 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • Two more announcement lines are published: Frozen Village (Yeti) and Magma Village (Magma General). Three are still missing: Warden, Fishman Lord and Cyborg.

    See update 30

  8. Update 30 25 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The Prison announcement line (Warden) is published: "Something has the guards restless at the Prison...". The source also fixes "windows" to "winds" on the Frozen Village line. Two are still missing: Fishman Lord and Cyborg.

    See update 30

  9. Update 30 26 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The announcement window for the next awakened boss moves to thirty minutes before the hour: on the Island Secrets page since the evening of 25 September, on his page since 26 September (a contributor says he saw him name the island as early as 12:30). After ten then twenty minutes, this is the third published value; the Awakened Bosses page still says ten. The entry gives the history and keeps the final ten minutes as the safe window.

    See update 30

  10. Update 30 26 septembre 2026 Adjustment
    • The Awakened Bosses page falls in line with the final half hour: the source's three pages now say thirty minutes, the entry drops the final ten minutes caveat. The source transcribes the "About that fighting style..." option (choice between Advanced Combat and Combat after the puzzle) and says there is no island line for Fishman Lord or Cyborg.

    See update 30

  11. Update 30 4 octobre 2026 Adjustment
    • The source fixes "Upper Sylands" to "Upper Skylands" in the Sky Warlord announcement line, and narrows the "boxes in their field of view" to the rage meter (Human V4) instead of Race V4 meters in general. The contributor reads it as the beast fruits' meter, but the source calls that one the Fury Meter.
