Bosses

Mechanic

Bosses are significantly tougher enemies than regular mobs: they attack with real abilities in addition to their M1, and they reward far more. More EXP, more Beli, Bounty/Honor on every kill, and item drops: swords, materials, accessories, guns. The game has 32 of them across the three seas since Update 30, which removed two and renamed three, plus The Gorilla God in dungeons. Every First Sea boss also has a secret awakened version.

How to get it

Every boss has a fixed spot on its island. They respawn much slower than regular enemies, and the delay depends on the boss (Raid Bosses follow other rules). The source used to give a 20 to 45 minute average; it removed it on 1 October 2026, so trust the timer.

When a boss isn't there, go to its spawn point anyway: a timer there shows the time left before it comes back.

How it works

Unlike a basic enemy, a boss uses abilities in addition to its M1 attacks. In exchange, it gives more EXP and Beli, awards Bounty/Honor with each kill, and can drop items: swords, materials, accessories, guns.

Crucial point: immunities don't work against them. Neither Blade's passive nor Elemental immunities. So you can't tank them for free with an elemental fruit, unlike farm mobs.

Since Update 30, every boss has its own theme music, an icon, a health bar and an attack indicator during the fight, its possible drops are shown under its health bar, and the camera pans toward it, red eyes glowing, when you get close.

Removed from the game

Wysper, the Upper Skylands boss removed from the game in Update 30.

In Update 30, the Thunder God became the Lightning God and the Magma Admiral became the Magma General: these are rework-renames, not removals, and they keep their island.

Magma Admiral, renamed Magma General starting with Update 30.
Thunder God, renamed Lightning God starting with Update 30.

The First Sea remains the sea with the most bosses, ahead of the Third Sea then the Second Sea. Note that 4 of the 10 Third Sea bosses are tied to a specific quest.

The source page still says 34 bosses and 16 in the First Sea: those are pre-Update 30 figures, it hasn't been recounted. Its own list gives 14 in the First Sea, i.e. 32 across the three seas.

Awakened bosses (Update 30)

Since Update 30, every First Sea boss has a secret awakened version. Every hour, a randomly chosen boss has a chance to awaken; to start the fight, you first have to clear the minigame or trigger specific to its island (breaking geysers, shaking a tree, flicking levers...). Beating it grants a free roll at the Awakened Boss Gacha, whose grand prize is the Royal Nimbus.

The full mechanics are on the Awakened Bosses page, and the island-by-island triggers are on the Island Secrets page. The Secret Master at Middle Town tells you which boss will awaken next.

What a full round pays

By killing every boss that has an associated quest, you collect roughly:

SeaBeli (without the 2x Money gamepass)
First Sea165,000
Second Sea170,000
Third Sea247,500

Beware of the bounty cap though: once you reach 2.5 million Bounty/Honor, bosses no longer give you any. Beyond that, only PvP will do.

The First Sea figure predates Update 30: the source hasn't recalculated it since the Chief Warden and the Swan were removed.

The Pain Event and Tormented bosses

During the Pain Event, some bosses are affected: you spot them by a red cloud hovering above them.

Once defeated, these bosses revive as a Tormented Boss and start using the Pain fruit. Their level becomes ???? and their health climbs to 200,000 HP.

Good to know

  • Most older bosses use the legacy version of their sword or fruit. Stone, for example, fights with the old Bomb.
  • Two exceptions: Don Swan has been updated and uses modern Spider moves, and Hydra Leader uses the first two Venom moves.
  • No regular boss uses a Beast-type fruit.
  • Longma was the only boss Instinct couldn't reveal. That changed after Update 20.
  • A cutscene plays the first time you fight a boss. That may be one reason most First Sea bosses got a new face in Update 30: a glowing effect comes from their eyes, and the two had to line up. On some bosses the effect still lands off their eyes.
  • Since a quiet minor update following Update 29.1, a timer shows up when a boss or Raid Boss dies, telling you how long until it respawns.

  1. Update 30 1er octobre 2026 Adjustment
    • The 20 to 45 minute respawn range was removed by the source: the page now points to the timer shown at the spawn point.
    • The link between the cutscene and the new First Sea boss faces is presented as a possible reason, no longer as a certainty; the source no longer says the other seas' bosses are affected.
    • The free roll after an awakened boss is named after its source page, the Awakened Boss Gacha.
