Janus Blox Fruits: the Tester Dorm developer in Middle Town

Janus is an NPC in Middle Town, in the First Sea. He is one of the game's developers and testers, and he has his own room on the island, the Tester Dorm. He serves one purpose only: the Early Access island secret, which awards 5 secret levels and the tester role. The catch is that he is almost never around. He comes out once a day, stays 30 minutes, and it is the same moment on every server.

How to get it

In the Tester Dorm of Middle Town, the building right above the Experienced Captain. You get in by breaking the window above the broken cart.

The Tester Dorm

The Tester Dorm is a hidden area of Middle Town, right above the Experienced Captain. There is no door: you break the window above the broken cart, a Flash Step is enough to reach it, and you go in. Inside, a desk and a closed room next to it. Janus comes out of that room and walks up to the desk.

When he leaves his room

This is the longest wait of all the island secrets. Janus spawns only once a day, stays around 30 minutes, then is gone until the next day. His spawn is global: he comes out at the same time on every server. Server hopping is therefore useless, even though it works for almost every other secret.

On 14 September 2026 the source published a more precise rule: a roll every 30 minutes starting at UTC midnight, with a chance that climbs through the day. That rule is no longer on the page as of 2 October 2026, but nothing has contradicted it. In practice, aim for the end of the UTC day, stay in the dorm and do not move.

The Early Access secret

Janus asks you to retrieve the Sea Animation System, in other words to go and delete the old 2017 sea animations from Robotmega's computer.

Break the window above the broken cart, next to the Experienced Captain, and enter the Tester Dorm.
Wait for Janus to leave his room and come to the desk. Talk to him to accept the quest.
Go to Robotmega's building, right next door.
Pick up the key lying by the Aura Editor: it is the Rear Door Key. It only appears once you have talked to Janus.
Go around to the back of that same building and unlock the door with the key.
A cutscene plays: your character hacks the computer.
Go back to Janus. He gives you the tester role, and the secret is complete.

Like every island secret, Early Access awards 5 secret levels. It is one of the 39 secrets to finish before La Finale, and therefore before level 3000. The island's other secrets are detailed on the Island Secrets page.

Two faces

Janus switches appearance every time you talk to him, and switches back the next time. His regular outfit is brown and black with golden highlights. The other one, visible on his back, shows an "everything is totally fine" face over black clothing. According to the source, every interaction with him costs you 1 Beli: a developer joke, cheap enough to bother nobody.

Our take

An NPC you only see 30 minutes a day, but required to finish the Middle Town secrets. Stay in the Tester Dorm at the end of the UTC day instead of server hopping.
