Cyborg is the grinding and combo race: damage conversion into energy, good defense and especially
Energy Core, a lightning aura that deals damage over time around you. Often cited as the best race for farming, it also excels against teamers thanks to its area damage and its ability to break
Instinct, even if its V4 is not the best choice in 1v1.
How to get it
One of three quest-unlocked races in the game: - V1: complete the Cyborg Puzzle, a full quest that requires, among other things, obtaining a
Fist of Darkness. - V2: bought from the
Alchemist, like all races except
Draco. - V3: show
Arowe any physical
Blox Fruit (don't worry, he won't take it). - V4: pass the
Trial of the Machine (see
Race Awakening).
Versions V1 through V3
| Tier | Buffs | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| V1 | No buffs | Metallic mask on the upper left of your head |
| V2 | +10% defense against melee, sword and gun attacks; 15% of damage taken passively converts to energy | No change |
| V3 | Unlocks Energy Core (see below) | The mask is replaced by a pair of futuristic black and red sunglasses |
Energy Core (V3) in detail
While the ability is active:
- +30% defense.
- A lightning zone surrounds you and deals damage over time to enemies in range: 33 ticks that start at 0 and scale with your level (formula: level x 0.065 x 33).
- Lasts 6.5 seconds, universal recharge of 30 seconds.
- Breaks Instinct, except if the enemy is at the very edge of the zone.
| Your Level | Total Damage |
|---|---|
| 1100 | 2,359.5 |
| 1500 | 3,217.5 |
| 2000 | 4,290 |
| 2750 | 5,899 |
| 2800 | 6,006 |
Race Awakening (V4)
Ancient Powers (transformation): max stats, +10% damage, speed and health regeneration.
| Gear | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Control | Your damage spreads to nearby enemies through orbs; unlocks Super Jump (Instinct activation required) | Enhanced spread; Super Jump deals damage and no longer requires Instinct |
| Aftershock | Your attacks apply an electrified effect that temporarily drains your opponent's Instinct dodges, with small damage over time | Stronger and longer electrified effect |
Visually: a pair of futuristic blue wings and a blue visor; in transformation, the blue glow shifts to purple.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- The best race for grinding, with good defense (especially Energy Core active).
- The V2 passive keeps you almost always full on energy: perfect with
Phoenix, which consumes tons of it. - Energy Core: free bonus damage for combos (one-shots and long combos alike), breaks Instinct, and interrupts opponent's held moves (
Dough's [V],
Rubber's [C]...). - Energy Control: excellent mobility, deadly in PvP with
NPCs around or against teamers; orbs break Instinct without even aiming. - Aftershock: drains Instinct dodges without needing to break it first.
- All abilities from V3 onward have an offensive component.
Weaknesses
- No movement buff (a speed accessory like
Pilot Helmet is recommended) and no defense against Blox Fruit attacks. - Hard and expensive to obtain: a Fist of Darkness plus an entire puzzle.
- The V2 energy passive remains gadget-tier, and no V4 gear can interact with large objects.
- Energy Core is countered by maintaining distance: you need to be close to break Instinct.
- Energy Control: vulnerable in the air, Super Jump requires a solid surface.
- Aftershock doesn't break Instinct: some unavoidable moves (like
Godhuman's held [C]) leave the opponent untouchable, and the gear becomes nearly useless against
Human V4's Psycho (Tier 2) or the Unbreakable enchantment.
Tips
- Energy Core's damage depends on your level, not your stats: perfect for finishing off an enemy or boss and leveling a weapon or fruit mastery without having stats on it.
- Combine Energy Control with
Portal's [C] toward an area full of enemies: the area burst (and the lag that comes with it) makes escape nearly impossible for your opponent. - Energy Control + M1 from
Skull Guitar (the technique of synchronizing M1, jump and dash) gives one of the fastest movements in the game thanks to super jump-dashes. - Damage-over-time builds benefit maximally from Energy Control's orbs.
Did you know?
- The damage reduction from V2 (10%) and V3 (30%) combined equals 37%, not 40%.
- Energy Control's Super Jump works during
Buddha's transformation and Shift (V2); the jump can even bug in Buddha form and reset mid-air.
Common misconception: V3 does NOT make combos impossible to Instinct-trick. The damage ticks are actually too slow for that.- With Human, Cyborg is one of only two races that provide no buff at V1.
- The V4 wings closely resemble those from V1 in ULTRAKILL.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Considered the best race for grinding
- Very good defense, especially with Energy Core active
- The V2 passive keeps you almost always full on energy (excellent with Phoenix and its huge consumption)
- Energy Core breaks Instinct and boosts one-shot combos as well as long combos
- Effective against multiple opponents at once and for interrupting held moves (Dough V, Rubber C...)
- No movement buff: a speed accessory like Pilot Helmet is recommended
- No defense against Blox Fruit attacks
- Demanding to obtain: Fist of Darkness plus a complete puzzle
- Countered by maintaining distance: you need to be close to hit with the aura
Our take
The number-one choice for farming and combo lovers: you're tanky, always full on energy, and Energy Core punishes anything that gets close. In pure PvP, compensate for its lack of speed with a mobility accessory.
