The Skylands are a group of sky islands in the
First Sea, tuned for levels 150 to 190. They start at sea level like any other island, then gradually rise into the sky. Since Update 17.2, small bridges connect them to each other: you no longer need to fly or chain air jumps to visit them. Reworked by Update 30, they hide three secrets (the
Mad Scientist's
Lightning Bolt, an invaded castle and a secret cloud) and welcome a new NPC, the
Angel Guard. The source now calls this lower part the Lower Skylands, to tell it apart from the
Upper Skylands. Their soundtrack is called Natural Innovation.
How to get it
In the First Sea, between
Marine Fortress and
Prison in progression order. Once on the first island, just follow the bridges to climb from one tier to the next.
The four islands, one by one
First island. Crescent-shaped, resting on the ground, covered in grass and scattered with rocks. In the back, two large rocks: on one of them stands the Mad Scientist, who sells the fighting style
Electric. There's also a small lake, fed by a waterfall from the islands above. On this lake, a small dock with two
NPCs: the
Angler and the
Boat Dealer.
Second island. The first to rest on a cloud, above sea level. It's the domain of the
Sky Bandits, with a large temple towards the back.
Yoshi, who sells the
Tomoe Ring, stands at the top of this temple. The island is entirely devoid of grass.
Third island. The smallest of the bunch: a tiny area with six trees and four
Dark Masters. It's covered in grass and trees, with a large flat rock on the side.
Fourth island. The one that concentrates the most NPCs: the
Sky Adventurer (quest giver), the
Set Home Point, and the
Master Sword Dealer. Grass, trees, paths and several houses, plus a waterfall that descends back down to the first island. Detail to know: one building has a door destructible by the [Z] of
Dark Blade, and it hides one of the three
Love Letters from the quest The Son. Behind a yellow house stands the Angel Guard, an NPC added by Update 30 (its entry gives the exact spot and the two secrets he hands out).

Island Secrets (Update 30)
Like every island reworked by Update 30, the Skylands (lower part) hide three secrets. The Sky Adventurer's Rumor dialogue option gives you the clue to the current secret.
Missing Lightning Bolt. Upon entering by the docks, turn left (90 degrees, says the island page) to the Mad Scientist: they ask you for a Lightning Bolt. Climb up the island and look for a cloud that flashes dark gray. Break it with any attack, you receive the Lightning Bolt, and bring it back to the Mad Scientist.
Return the Treasure. After waiting a while on the Lower Skylands, the chat announces the castle invasion: "Enemies have invaded the Skylands Castle!" (the island page quotes "Sky Bandits have invaded the Sky Castle" instead). Head to the castle, break the large brown roof hatch with the prompt that appears, defeat all the invaders inside, then read the paper on the table: it holds the code to enter into the Angelic Vault, at the castle's center. End message: "(your username) drove the invaders out of the Skylands castle!".
Unexpected Guest. After waiting a while on the Lower Skylands, the chat shows: "A secret cloud has appeared over the Skylands!". A yellow cloud starts flying around the islands: pass through it or attack it, a chest falls. Repeat three times to drop a diamond chest, find it and interact with it: a group of enemies spawns, and the last one gives you the key to the chest. End message: "(your username) shook the Skylands treasure out of the secret cloud!". It is the only secret in the game that can be repeated at will, handy to make up missing levels.
What you get. Each secret is worth 5 secret levels, so 15 for the island, and once all three are done, the Skylands become a destination of the
Middle Town teleporter, inside the central building. The full step-by-step walkthrough is on the Island Secrets page. The Upper Skylands have their own secrets, on their own page.
Ascending to the Upper Skylands
The upper part of the archipelago, nicknamed the Upper Skylands, is so vast that it deserves its own page.
The recommended method to access it:
- Step 1. Jump onto the tallest tree near the island.
- Step 2. Chain 7 to 9 air jumps and dashes.
- Step 3. Target the island that contains the teleportation temple.
If you have a flight move, you can of course skip all this gymnastics.
Good to know
- Fandom ranks the Skylands second in number of distinct landmasses, behind the
Sea of Treats and its five islands. The page only describes four islands, plus the Upper Skylands. - Since Update 17.2, the Skylands (excluding Upper Skylands) are connected to each other by bridges. Flying or doing air jumps is no longer necessary.
- Progression tip: the source recommends skipping the Sky Bandits quest by server hopping on the
Vice Admiral of Marine Fortress. - Until Update 24, you could traverse the
Hoops in flight to change your appearance, provided you used the
Dragon (Classic) fruit. - The model of the Tomoe Ring sold by Yoshi was redone by Update 30.
- The island has existed since Update 1.
