Chef, formerly known as
Bobby, is a level 55 boss in
Pirate Village, in
First Sea. With 1,775 HP and no
Aura, he chains M1s with
Cutlass and pulls [Z] and [X] abilities from the
Blade fruit. One in four times, he tanks a sword hit without flinching - a
Blox Fruit or fighting style makes him fall much faster. He's the perfect boss to learn how to read an attack pattern.
How to get it
Head to Pirate Village (First Sea): he stands outside, in front of the yellow house, facing the
Brutes. He's alone on the server and respawns 5 minutes after he dies.
What it drops
- 250-300 Beli
- 900-1,100 EXP
- 1,375
Bounty/Honor

The associated quest
The
Pirate Adventurer assigns you to hunt Chef starting at level 55. By completing it, you earn 8,000 Beli and 45,000 EXP, well above what the boss drops - remember to take the quest before fighting him.
His two attacks
| Ability | What it does | When he uses it | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Razor Cyclone | He conjures blades on his arms then lunges toward you while slashing continuously in a purple horizontal cyclone | He spams it whenever you stay at range | Dash left or right continuously: the hitbox is relatively small |
| Blade Dance | Blades on his arms, he spins very fast and creates a zone of slashing hits with a purple swirl effect. At the end of the attack, you're launched into the air | When you're close to him | Stay at range: up close, it stuns and hits hard |
How to beat him
Two methods work really well.
Hit and run. Dodge an attack, land an M1, then dash before he reacts. Done right, you chain hits without taking a single one. Just watch your stamina bar: when empty, you can't dash anymore, and that's when things go wrong.
The wall. Push him or lure him against the house in front of which he stands, then quickly get to the other side of the wall. He'll stick to the wall and can't do anything to you as long as you stay slightly back. Then throw ranged area attacks through the wall: he takes them without being able to retaliate.
In both cases, keep your sword sheathed: he ignores a quarter of sword hits. A Blox Fruit or fighting style is much more worthwhile.
Did you know
- A Golden Chest is found inside the building in front of which he appears: take advantage of it while you're there.
- He's the only boss in the game to use the reworked version of his fruit.
- He's also the very first enemy in the game to use a Blox Fruit.
- His history: released in Update 1 under the name Bobby, he becomes immune to swords only one in four times in Update 17.3 (before that, he was completely immune), then Bobby is replaced by Chef in Update 26, with a fruit that changes from
Chop to Blade.
Our take
An early-game boss that's easy to cheese through a wall: perfect for practicing boss fights in First Sea.
