Upgrading allows you to improve your swords and guns to increase their damage. Upgrades are done with the
Blacksmith in exchange for materials, and each weapon can only be upgraded once. It's also a required step - a weapon must be upgraded before it can be enchanted.
How to get it
Bring the required materials to the Blacksmith - each weapon has its own upgrade recipe.
How it works
- Added in Update 17.3, the system only applies to swords and guns.
- Bring the required materials to the Blacksmith NPC - he upgrades the weapon and increases its damage.
- One upgrade per weapon only, no multiple levels.
- Upgrading is required to enchant a weapon (see
Enchantments).
Where to find the Blacksmith
The Blacksmith is located in all three seas:
Upgrade recipes
- Each weapon has its own material recipe - the details are shown on the page for each sword and gun.
- General rule: the higher a weapon's rarity, the more materials its recipe requires, and the harder those materials are to obtain.
- The vast majority of recipes require only two types of materials; those requiring three mainly concern
Legendary weapons and beyond. - Completionist trap: to upgrade all First Sea weapons, you need to be at least in the Third Sea, because
Soul Cane,
Pole (1st Form) and
Saber require
Radioactive Material, and the
Bazooka requires
Dragon Scales.

Did you know?
- Once an item is upgraded, a small white star appears in the top-left corner of its icon in your inventory - handy for spotting at a glance what still needs to be done.
- Weapons obtained in the First Sea gain proportionally more from upgrading than those from the Second or Third Sea, likely because weapons naturally become better as you progress.
