Chief Warden

Boss

Removed from the game in Update 30: the Chief Warden no longer exists since the First Sea overhaul of September 5, 2026, and the Warden remains the Prison's only permanent boss. What follows describes the game before that update. The Chief Warden was a level 230 boss guarding the Prison courtyard, right after the Warden: shirtless, wearing an Egyptian headdress and black bat-like wings, he mostly impressed with his sword M1s that had almost no cooldown. His big weakness: no ranged attack at all, so he was very easy to take apart from out of reach.

How to get it

He stood in the Prison courtyard, in First Sea, after the Warden, and respawned 7 minutes after being defeated. You had to aim for Lv. 230 or higher.

Since Update 30 (September 5, 2026), he no longer appears anywhere: the remade Prison only keeps the Warden, and the Swan was removed at the same time as him.

What he dropped

Possible extra drop:

  • Wardens Sword

The source doesn't say what becomes of the Wardens Sword since his removal.

How he used to be beaten

He carried the Wardens Sword but used none of its moves: all he could do was M1s, extremely fast, as if he had no cooldown. The whole strategy was therefore to never stay within his reach.

  • The outer circle method: hit him, run to the closest entrance of the prison's outer circle, and once he had followed you there, head back out to the inner circle and hit him from the height. He couldn't climb, and his sword range was shorter than yours. The same trick still works on the Warden. Magma was ideal here: big damage, and its lava puddles touched him even when the main attack missed.
  • Swan's room: if Swan was absent or already defeated, you lured the Chief Warden into his room, then went back out to the walls next to the quest giver to hit him from there with a sword or a fighting style. He only very rarely landed a hit. With a fighting style, it was better to avoid M1s.
  • Stunning M1s: since he had no move, a fruit whose M1s stun, like Kitsune, locked him down. That said, Ice and Light were far more realistic to get in the First Sea.
  • The two-boss combo: group him with the Warden, take the Warden quest, go to the wall, kill the Warden, then take the Chief Warden quest and finish him. You could hit both at the same time.
  • In any case, ranged attacks kept you from getting barraged by his flurry of M1s.

Good to know

  • The Chief Warden arrived as early as Update 1.
  • His level went from 200 to 230 in Update 17.2.
  • He was removed from the First Sea in Update 30 (September 5, 2026), at the same time as the Swan, the Prison's other secondary boss. The Warden, on the other hand, stays in the game and gains a secret awakened version.

Our take

An easy boss with no ranged attacks - good for farming Beli and Bounty in First Sea, as long as you don't stay close to him.
