Saber Expert is a level 200 boss locked in a secret room in the
Jungle, in the
First Sea. He is a required passage to obtain the
Saber, which he drops for certain, and to unlock
Instinct. With his cramped room, his speed, and his lightning-fast regeneration, he is noticeably tougher than other bosses at his tier. Recognizable by his red hair, white vest, black cape, and double scar below his left eye.
Its appearance was redone in Update 30, with the First Sea rework. Nothing indicates its stats changed, however.
How to get it
In his secret Jungle room (First Sea). Two conditions to even be able to damage him: be level 200 minimum and have completed the Saber Expert puzzle. 11,000 HP, respawn every 20 minutes. You must deal at least 10% of the damage to leave with the Saber.

What it drops
- Approximately 10,000 Beli
- Approximately 32,500 EXP
- 5,000
Bounty/Honor - The Saber
Rare trait: the Saber is a guaranteed drop. Saber Expert is one of the only bosses in the game with this property, so a single kill is enough to leave with the sword, as long as you dealt 10% of the damage.
His only attack
He reuses an old ability from the Saber.
| Ability | What it does | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|
| Air Slash | He sweeps his sword to send a red air blade in your direction | Dash to the sides while he launches the blade |
Curiously, while wielding the Saber, he doesn't use any moves from V1 or V2 of the sword. This red blade could be a remnant from the Saber V1 moveset from early development.
How to beat him
- Stay outside and ranged attack. He can't leave his room: position yourself outside the door and chain medium and long-range moves.
Light and Ice are safe bets. - Never stop hitting him. The moment you stop attacking him, he fully regenerates his health in a very short time. If you die, get back in the room quickly before he's at full health.
- Hit and run: dash at him, land a hit, get out before he reacts. It's doable but risky: his damage is enormous and very fast. Light or
Blade are the best supports for this approach. - Watch your energy: without energy, no dodging, and you take damage.
- Choose a fruit or weapon that works in confined space: his room is small.
- Dying multiple times under level 300 is normal, he's much harder than other bosses at the same tier like the
Warden. From level 400 onwards, he becomes easy. Around level 300, look for stronger players on the spot: some farm him for the Bounty. - The staircase bug: he can get stuck on the square bump between the steps, which makes the fight much simpler. Either way, keep in mind he can still hit you with his ranged attack.
Good to know
- Beating Saber Expert is a requirement to obtain Instinct.
- Contradiction in the source: the Notes section claims he can't leave his secret room, while the Trivia section explains he can leave to chase you over a short distance before being teleported back to his spawn point and reset to 100% health, like any NPC too far from its spawn. In practice, go with the second version: he follows you a bit, then heads back home at full strength.
- Certain moves from certain
Blox Fruits or swords (
Dough,
Creation,
Dark Dagger among others) can make him leave his room by bug. The [X] of Dough is cited specifically. - His secret room was originally only accessible to players level 700 or higher, which has been changed since.
- He is among the rare bosses with no associated defeat quest, alongside
The Saw,
Longma,
Don Swan, and
Mob Leader. - He had an elf variant during the
Christmas Event.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Regenerates his entire health bar in seconds if you stop hitting him
- Very high and very fast damage, lethal around level 300
- Cramped room that limits your movement and gives him a lot of mobility
- Trapped in his room: you can ranged attack him from the door in complete safety
- Only one attack, Air Slash, which you can dodge by dashing to the sides
- Can get stuck on the bump between the stair steps
- With no Aura, your
Elemental immunity retains its full value
Our take
An unavoidable boss of the First Sea: mandatory for the Saber and Instinct, but much harder than other level 200 bosses.
