Empyrean is the
Mythical mutation of
Kitsune, added in Update 29.1. It is a
Beast type fruit with M1s, and its moveset copies Kitsune's with three clear differences: the M1s, the [Z] and the transformed [C]. At 3 tails, the first three M1s gain a lot of reach, much like
Dragon's M1s, while the fourth trades part of its damage for a wide pull that gathers nearby enemies. Out of transformation, [Z] fires a beam toward your cursor that can be held for enormous damage; transformed, it changes animation, and the held version of [C] triggers a cinematic unique to the mutation. Nearly every move hits in an area: together with the M1s, that makes it one of the best fruits in the game for grinding. Two catches: the
Mastery requirements are heavy for a low level, and physical copies are so rare that getting one for free is close to impossible.
How to get it
- Rolled from the
Winter 2025 Fruit Box, a limited time box that also gives the Galaxy skin. That box can itself drop as a Premium Box from the
Winter Gacha. - Bought directly for 2,000 Robux in the Kitsune fruit's mutation section. You need a Permanent Kitsune first.
- Bought through the Fox Spirit Bundle during the
Christmas Event 2025. - Trade: Empyrean is traded as a special item.
Moveset
Moveset
| Key | Move | Preview | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1 | Normal Attack | Red flame slashes shoot forward; the 4th hit groups enemies from a large area into one point (heavily reduced damage) and the last one varies on ground or in air. At 3 tails, hits burn over time; all 5 M1s consume 7.5% of the tail gauge. | |
| Z | Sweeping Firestorm Mas. 1 |
Pressed: a short red fire beam deals light damage. Held: a ring of red letters like |
|
| X | Tails of Burning Agony Mas. 50 |
Zigzag strike that hits two angles before reaching the target and stunning for about 0.65 s. One variant grabs the enemy in the air to slam them down, the other hits them on the ground to launch them up. Consumes 12.5% of the tail gauge. | |
| C | Burstfire Cannon Mas. 100 |
Summons a light red fireball launched on key release: huge explosion on impact, with lingering flames near the ground. Breaks Instinct and deals slightly more damage on direct hit. Consumes 15% of the tail gauge. | |
| V | Mas. 300 |
Transformation into full Kitsune form. During the transformation, you avoid all basic damage for one second; the move consumes a total of 30% of the visible tail gauge. | |
| F | Wild Assault Mas. 200 |
Dash forward: if an enemy is hit, they suffer a barrage of claw strikes between |

| M1 | Normal Attack | Identical to untransformed M1s at 3 tails, with area of effect, hitbox and slightly higher damage. All 5 hits consume 7.5% of the visible tail gauge. | |
| Z | Sweeping Firestorm Mas. 1 |
Summons three red fireballs then dashes forward. If the target is hit, you pivot behind them and fire a fireball that explodes with damage over time; otherwise, a barrage of fireballs erupts around you in a wide area. Consumes 15% of the gauge. | |

Zigzag dash: grabbed target is carried into the air then violently slammed to the ground, breaking |

| C | Burstfire Cannon Mas. 100 |
Pressed: a red fireball strikes in a wide area and leaves high-damage flames over time (25% of the gauge). Held: a quick dash triggers a cinematic on contact where you fire a huge energy ball at close range (75% of the gauge). | |
| V | Transformation Mas. 300 |
Instant return to human form, which restores access to combat styles, swords, and guns. | |
| F | Wild Assault Mas. 200 |
Dash to enemy followed by a tail sweep, in the spirit of True Triple Katana's Z, Rengoku's Z, and Kitsune's M1s. Consumes 15% of the visible tail gauge. |
The tail passive
| Passive | What it does |
|---|---|
| Swift Tails | The tail gauge fills on its own and when you deal damage. At 3 tails the gauge turns rainbow and the transformation unlocks. Missing an attack drains the gauge, M1s included, though M1s cost less than other moves. |
| Transformed Energy | Once transformed, a third of the gauge drains slowly, and it also drops whenever you take damage, lava and water included. While transformed you no longer regain gauge passively: only your damage refills it, Kitsune's damage over time included. |
| 2 tails | +100% speed, improved dash, and you run on all fours. Air jumps, dashes and walking each get their own animation. |
| 3 tails | Three glowing orbs spin around you. [F] and your M1s then leave red flames that burn the target: 3 seconds, one damage tick per second. The 4th M1 changes slightly in appearance, and the first three gain noticeable reach in the form of three flaming slashes thrown forward, exclusive to Empyrean. |
| Heavenly Fox Fur | While transformed: 20% damage reduction from every source, improved attacks, reduced cooldowns, higher speed, a jump twice as high as average and a longer dash. |
| Tread of the Highest Heaven | While transformed, you run on water. You cannot stand still on it, though. |
| Empyrean Mount | While transformed, an allied player can ride you thanks to your saddle. |
Worth noting: the source contradicts itself on damage at 3 tails. The passive entry states that this tier does not raise your damage at all, the M1 description says the opposite and claims base damage goes up, and the trivia section states that Empyrean's M1s hit noticeably softer at 3 tails, offset by their reach. You get all three versions rather than one picked at random.
Cooldowns and energy
| Key | Move | Cooldown in base form | Cooldown transformed | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| [M1] | Normal Attack | 0.5 s | 0.5 s | not listed |
| [Z] | Sweeping Firestorm | 9 s | 6.75 s | 20 |
| [X] | Tails of Burning Agony | 12 s | 9 s | 40 |
| [C] | Burstfire Cannon | 15 s | 11.25 s | 80 |
| [V] | Transformation | 2 s | 3 s | 20 |
| [F] | Wild Assault | 9 s | 6.75 s | 60 |
The source adds one detail that does not quite match its own table: according to it, [V] goes on a 2 second cooldown after transforming, and a 3 second one after returning to human form.
Instinct: what breaks, what gets dodged
In base form
| Key | Move | Breaks Instinct | Dodgeable with Instinct | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passive | 3 tails | Yes | No | Requires a full gauge. Triggers on its own if you grab with [M1] or [F]. |
| [M1] | Normal Attack | No | Yes | Never breaks Instinct in any way. |
| [Z] | Sweeping Firestorm | Yes | No | Tapped or held, it always breaks Instinct. |
| [X] | Tails of Burning Agony | No | Yes | Does not break Instinct, but eats a lot of it in a kentrick situation. |
| [C] | Burstfire Cannon | Yes | Yes | The first hit and the flames break Instinct if you are caught in them. The explosion itself can be dodged. |
| [V] | Transformation | Yes | Yes | Dodgeable on the edge during the animation. The small explosion can break Instinct. |
| [F] | Wild Assault | Yes | Yes | Only breaks Instinct if the grab lands. The first hit can be dodged. |
Transformed
| Key | Move | Breaks Instinct | Dodgeable with Instinct | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passive | 3 tails | Yes | No | Only works if you grab with [M1] or [F]. |
| [M1] | Normal Attack | No | Yes | Never breaks Instinct. |
| [Z] | Sweeping Firestorm | Yes | Yes | On a hit, the small throw damage can be dodged but the explosion breaks Instinct. On a miss, the edge can sometimes be dodged. |
| [X] | Tails of Burning Agony | Yes | Yes | Only the slam breaks Instinct. The initial grab and the flames can be dodged if you miss. |
| [C] | Burstfire Cannon | Yes | No | Breaks Instinct on a hit. The cinematic freezes attacker and target alike. |
| [V] | Transformation | Not applicable | Not applicable | Deals no damage. |
| [F] | Wild Assault | Yes | Yes | Only the slashes break Instinct. The initial grab and the flames can be dodged if you miss. |
These tables predate Update 29.2: since that patch, a tapped [Z] no longer breaks Instinct, even though the same page keeps claiming otherwise above. See the balance history just below.
Balance history
Update 29.1 - release
- Empyrean is published, along with the Galaxy skin.
- Immediate rebalance: the transformed [Z] Sweeping Firestorm gains endlag (nerf), and the transformed [C] Burstfire Cannon gets a projectile version on tap, identical to Kitsune's (neutral change).
Christmas Event 2025, day 6 - silent change
- The transformed [C] gains the projectile option on tap, identical to regular Kitsune but in red flames.
- The transformed [Z] is nerfed: it temporarily stops you from using any move while it plays out.
Update 29.2 - heavy nerf
- A tapped [Z] no longer breaks Instinct.
- Held [Z] damage drops by 30%.
- [X] now channels on impact: you can no longer start another ability before the animation ends.
- [C] endlag goes up by 0.3 seconds.
Known bugs
- While transformed, Empyrean has a larger hitbox than regular Kitsune on some servers.
- While transformed, approaching the large ships during a
Ship Raid or a
Haunted Ship Raid makes them teleport backwards at the same speed you move forward.
Good to know
- The word "Empyrean" comes from Greek (en - pyr) and means "in the fire".
- It is the first mutation in the game to have its own skin; the second is
Fiend, with the Runic skin from the
Summer 2026 Chromatic Box (Update 30). - On paper it is a mutation, but in game it outclasses Kitsune on nearly every point.
- Empyrean Kitsune has 9 tails, regular Kitsune only 5.
- Lagging players are easier to hit with [Z]: their hitbox trails behind and barely moves.
- Unlike Kitsune, whose first three M1s grab and stun, Empyrean's push the enemy forward like Dragon's M1s from 3 tails or while transformed.
- The held transformed [C] does not refill the tail gauge, even though it is the most destructive transformed move.
- The source reports that the damage of the untransformed [Z] is bugged, confirmed according to it by Admin E, and that the bug had lasted over 5 months. Careful, it calls that move "Burstfire Cannon" at that spot, while [Z] is named Sweeping Firestorm and Burstfire Cannon is [C]: that is a mix-up on the page, not another move.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Huge trade value (available for a very short period)
- Excellent movement speed from 2 tails onward
- High damage, large areas and great M1 range: very good for farming
- Can break Instinct (passive and damage over time at 3 tails)
Our take
Empyrean is a mutation that outclasses the fruit it comes from: bounty hunting, farming in all three seas, it does almost everything very well. The price to pay is heavy Mastery requirements, a tail gauge to watch at all times, and a rarity that makes it nearly out of reach without the shop or a trade. Keep in mind as well that it was heavily nerfed in Update 29.2.
