Ancient One: the Race V4 trials at the Temple of Time

The Ancient One, also called Red Head Essence, stands at the bottom of the staircase in the Temple of Time. He hands out the Gears you fit into the Ancient Clock to unlock the Race V4 abilities. His four trials are cleared by chaining full V4 transformations, then paid in Fragments: 26,750 Fragments in total to finish them all.

How to get it

At the Temple of Time, in the Third Sea. To get in, talk to the Mysterious Force at the top of the Great Tree, then pull the lever to reach the Trial Rooms. The Ancient One stands near the bookshelf, right next to the staircase leading up to the Ancient Clock.

The 4 trials and their cost

Each trial is cleared by stacking full Race V4 transformations, then paid in Fragments. A transformation only counts once the gauge has drained completely, without being interrupted. The Fandom counts in minutes or in activations interchangeably: one full transformation equals one minute of training.

Trial	Training required	Fragments
Trial 1	3 transformations	1,000
Trial 2	5 transformations	1,500
Trial 3	3 stages of 3, 4 and 5 transformations	2,000 then 2,250 then 2,500 (6,750 total)
Trial 4	5 stages of 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 transformations	3,000 then 3,250 then 3,500 then 3,750 then 4,000 (17,500 total)

Grand total: 26,750 Fragments.

The Trial 3 stages changed on the Fandom on 8 October 2026: the page showed 5, 5 and 5 from April 2026 and has listed 3, 4 and 5 since. If the Ancient One tells you something else in game, he is the one to trust.

Things to watch out for

The transformation has to run its course. If your V4 is cut short before the gauge is fully empty, it does not count towards your training.
Upgrading your race resets your training progress to zero. Finish what you started before touching an upgrade.
After a trial, if you place your gear without talking to the Ancient One again, you cannot move on to the next trial. The only exception: players who already own all five gears, the maximum.
You can train and make progress in any sea, not only in the Third Sea.
If you play Draco, he cannot help you: that race follows another path.

His lines

Without Race V4 unlocked: "You have yet to achieve greatness."
As Draco: "Your race treads a different path to power. I'm unable to help with this."
Once the last trial and its upgrade are done: "It seems you've made this power your own. I've done all I can for you."

Good to know

His model is identical to the Frozen Watcher's: only the colours differ, the Frozen Watcher being blue.
The NPC arrived with Update 17.3.
