The Red Commander is a level 5000
Raid Boss with 6,666,666 HP who sits enthroned in the
Oni Realm (Interior). He's the first boss in the game to use the complete moveset of a fighting style - namely
Sanguine Art - plus a special attack. He spawns every hour, stays for only 15 minutes, and rewards his defeaters with
Oni Tokens. Good news: inside his domain, your damage is multiplied by 4.
How to get it
The Red Commander doesn't need to be summoned - he spawns on his own in the Oni Realm (Interior) every hour at XX:30 (12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, and so on) and disappears 15 minutes later if no one has defeated him. He's accessible from all three seas.
What it drops
- 125,000
Bounty/Honor - Oni Token
When and Where to Fight
Head to the Oni Realm (Interior) at every half-hour mark. Two system messages frame his arrival: first "The entrance to the
Oni Realm is opening...", then "The Red Commander beckons from his throne." when the boss appears.
After 15 minutes without defeat, he leaves with "Your strength fails to impress the Red Commander - he vanishes."
Small note: the Fandom describes this cycle in the past tense without clarifying if the timing has changed. The infobox still announces spawns every hour and despawn after 15 minutes.
Rewards
- 300 Oni Tokens, or 390 if you equip the
Oni Helmet or
Sanguine Cloak before defeating him - 125,000 Bounty or Honor
- Since version 27.1.2, he no longer drops
Money or
Fragments - Oni Tokens are given upon leaving the domain after the boss is defeated
His Attacks
| Attack | What It Does | How to Handle It |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodbane Drain | He charges at you and, if he hits, grabs you by the throat: immediate damage and stun. | Stay out of range. If hit, the damage and knockback are dodgeable with |
| Scarlet Tear | He sends six slashes at you and leaves claw marks on the ground and walls in front of him. | Stay out of range. |
| Devourer of Worlds | He shoots a dark red mass, like a leech, that pulls you toward him, then spawns five energy orbs around you that attack. | Stay out of range. The pull is dodgeable with Instinct. Watch out for the orbs if you're hit during a held move - they interrupt it. |
| Multidirectional Devourer | He takes a stance and a red circle grows around him while he charges. When the circle disappears, he fires the [C] from Sanguine Art in multiple directions, horizontally only, leaving red orbs that trap those who get near them for a few seconds. | Exit the circle and move away, or position yourself above or below him to avoid the orbs. These are dodgeable with Instinct, but they'll consume almost all your dodges and still stun you even if you can still use your moves. Staying very close to him sometimes avoids the pull, but it's risky. A move that gives i-frames or stuns him, like [C] from Ice, will properly counter the attack. |
| He teleports to a player from very far away and immediately follows up with Multidirectional Devourer. | Same precautions as Multidirectional Devourer. |
How to Beat Him
- In the Oni Realm (Interior), players deal 4 times their maximum damage - the boss falls much faster than it seems.
- He alternates between close and long range - fight at distance with objects and long-range fruits.
- Come with at least two or three players - he's very hard to beat solo.
- He prioritizes targeting the closest player or the one with the least health before moving to the next - keeping your distance is vital.
- Prioritize fruits with stun or crowd control (Ice,
Dark,
Sand,
Lightning,
Dough,
Control), or high-burst ones like
Buddha and Gas. - For fighting styles, Sanguine Art and
Godhuman shine thanks to their stun. Avoid
Electric Claw - its [C] has a strong chance of phasing you through the ground. - Transformed Mammoth is excellent - its [F] can stun him in a loop and let allies hit him safely.
- Use an
Oni Soul - the boss will prioritize targeting the clone, greatly reducing his threat level. - When he uses Multidirectional Devourer, go above or below him before the move ends to avoid damage and stun. He can also use it while airborne, so don't stay in the air too long.
- Dying to him doesn't cost any Bounty or Honor.
- Unexplained oddity: he's immune to Godhuman's held [C] and Dough V2's [C] slam, especially when fought solo.
- Don't forget the Oni Helmet or Sanguine Cloak before the finishing blow for 390 Oni Tokens instead of 300.
Things to Know
- He's the first NPC in the game to use Dash and
Air Jump to catch up to players. - He's the second level 5000 Raid Boss, after
rip_indra True Form. - He's also the first Raid Boss to have the complete moveset of a fighting style - Sanguine Art.
- His damage scales with player level, allowing lower-level players to fight him without dying instantly.
- His health was around 4 million before developers raised it to 6,666,666 without announcement - a nod to 666.
- Known bug: after defeating him, players sometimes don't receive their tokens and aren't teleported out of the Oni Realm.
- Old bug: on older servers, when the boss hit very hard and had around 4 million health, some players received 300 Oni Tokens twice without even defeating him.
History
The Red Commander arrived with Update 27.1.
- v27.1.2: health increased from 425,000 to 4,025,000, removed Money and Fragment drops, Oni Tokens now given upon leaving the domain
- v27.1.4 and v27.1.5: health increased from 4,025,000 to 6,666,666 and damage reduced
Our take
An impressive hourly boss on paper with 6,666,666 HP, but much more manageable than it seems thanks to the x4 damage bonus in the Oni Realm. Come with others, keep your distance, deploy an Oni Soul to draw aggro, and most importantly don't forget the Oni Helmet or Sanguine Cloak before the killing blow - that's an extra 90 Oni Tokens per run.
