Yama, a legendary katana said to be possessed by a demon, is an elite PvP support tool. Its [X] drains
Instinct while the target stays inside the tornado, enough to lock in combos that are hard to escape, and in competitive play the ragdoll on its [Z] feeds into
Skull Guitar movement glitches for insane mobility. Its raw damage, however, is clearly lacking.
How to get it
Yama is obtained by completing the Yama puzzle, linked to the
Secret Temple on
Hydra Island (
Third Sea). When you equip it, you receive the title "Demon Mode" (#162).
Upgrades
Moveset
| Key | Move | Preview | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1 | Normal Attack | Three slashes then a lunge thrust on the fourth. | |
| Z | Hellish Slash Mas. 150 |
You spin forward with your blade while rushing toward your cursor: strong knockback and decent damage, slightly higher if the following air blade hits too. Long range and genuine mobility, but this move never breaks Instinct. cooldown 9s · energy 20 |
|
| X | Infernal Hurricane Mas. 300 |
You charge in position while black and red blades crackle, then release: a dash followed by a tornado of slashes that drags the enemy forward while stunning them. Good combo starter, despite very low damage. Since Update 29.6 it no longer breaks Instinct: it drains it while the target remains in the hitbox. cooldown 14s · energy 30 |
The Yama Puzzle
The puzzle requires you to have completed at least 20
Elite Hunter /
Player Hunter quests. Rather do 30 to guarantee 100% odds - it's strongly recommended before you start. Good news: Yama remains easier to obtain than
Tushita. There is no level requirement for Yama, unlike Tushita: Elite Hunter quests have no minimum level, you only need to be in the Third Sea, which means level 1500 to get in.
Towards the
Cursed Dual Katana
Yama is half of the cursed duo: raise Yama and Tushita to 350
Mastery and reach level 2200 to unlock the Cursed Dual Katana puzzle.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Excellent support sword: the [X] drains Instinct while the target remains in the hitbox
- One of the best swords in the game for movement: mobility on both moves
- Short cooldowns and good combo potential
- AoE on both moves: multiple targets hit at once
- The [Z] ragdoll feeds the Skull Guitar boost in competitive play
- Easier to obtain than Tushita
- No minimum level: Elite Hunter quests have none, you only need to be in the Third Sea
- Damage below average for Second/Third Sea swords; the [X] hits even weaker than M1
- The [Z] never breaks Instinct and its small hitbox bothers transformed
Buddha users - No move breaks Instinct since Update 29.6: the [X] only drains it
- Dash on the 4th M1, and impossible to hit
Blade users - Demanding puzzle: at least 20 Elite Hunter quests beforehand
Our take
Don't judge Yama by its damage: it's a support and mobility sword, not a burst machine. In PvP it locks enemies into combos and elevates your movement game to the next level. And if you're aiming for the Cursed Dual Katana, you'll have to go through it anyway.
