Shark (formerly
Fish) is the tank race of the game: water damage immunity for fruit users and especially
Water Body, a damage reduction of about 70% that nearly nullifies an entire combo. Simple and effective, it's an excellent choice for starting out in PvP, for your first sea events or your first bounty hunting, even if the community deems it outdated since its nerfs.
How to get it
One of the four starting races: 12.5% chance to begin the game with it. Otherwise, you can get it through the
Shop, from the NPC Tort, or through the
Event Shop /
Death King. - V2: purchased from the
Alchemist, like all races except
Draco. - V3: defeat a
Sea Beast that appears naturally. - V4: complete the
Trial of Water challenge.
Versions V1 through V3
| Tier | Buffs | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| V1 | Reduces damage taken in water as a fruit user and increases your swimming speed | Blue shark fin on your back |
| V2 | Increased speed in and out of water; water damage is completely negated for fruit users | No change |
| V3 | Unlocks Water Body: reduces damage taken from players and | Two additional fins on your arms (watch out for clipping, optimal rendering with a cubic avatar) |
Race Awakening (V4)
| Gear | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|
| A shield (overflow) that blocks 85% of damage you take and regenerates by dealing damage (less effective on NPCs). Capacity up to 30% of your max HP: the gauge shows 21%, but the actual value is about x1.43 the display | Capacity increased to 50% of your max HP (gauge shown 35%) and much stronger regeneration: up to 2/3 of damage dealt converted to shield | |
| Your attacks apply a water debuff: cumulative slowdown up to about -40% speed and -5% enemy defense | The debuff lasts longer (from 3 s to 5 s) and stacks up to -60% |
Visually: a tail fin grows; in transformation, all fins and hair become white, and a blue aura surrounds the player when Leviathan's Armor is active.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Water immunity starting at V2 (simple reduction at V1) for fruit users.- Water Body tanks an entire combo: about -70% damage for 5 seconds, enough to make a combo nearly useless.
- Massive damage reduction by combining Awakened
Buddha + Water Body. - Leviathan's Armor saves you against teamers, spammers, and trappers.
- Whirlpool pins fleeing enemies to the ground: slower, easier to hit, and less defensive.
- Ideal for beginners in PvP: it forgives mistakes.
Weaknesses
- No mobility buff: ground gameplay is sluggish.
- Slightly longer combos still get through Water Body.
Lava can bypass Leviathan's Armor: you then take about half the damage, without the shield draining.- Whirlpool does little against enemies that don't flee or who camp in the air.
- Deemed outdated by several other races by the community since its nerfs.
Counters to Know
Several fruits walk or roll on water and bypass a good portion of Shark's usefulness: the Frost Walker passive of Ice, Magmatic Feet of Awakened
Magma, the [Z] (Shift) of Awakened Buddha, the [F] (Scorching Donut) of Awakened
Dough, and the transformations of
Kitsune, Gas, and
Yeti.
The race still has merit against them: it prevents you from being dragged underwater.
Also worth noting: - Crossing an ocean is often faster with air dash + mobility move than swimming. - Non-fruit users and
Leviathan Shield carriers don't really benefit from water immunity.
Good to Know
- V1 swimming is faster than the
Dinghy, but slower than the
Sloop; V2 swimming is slightly faster than the
Brigade. - With 0 defense points (and no HP accessories), the V1 passive makes you take only 1 damage in water: your HP stays locked at 99/100.
- The Leviathan's Armor aura becomes brighter as the shield gauge drops, and disappears when it's empty.
- Leviathan's Armor is considered the only defense that the enhanced [V] and [C] of
Gravity and the Piercing enchantment cannot ignore: it's a shield that gives you bonus HP, not a standard defense percentage.
Strengths and weaknesses
- Water Body tanks combos: huge damage reduction for 5 s
- Complete water immunity starting at V2 for fruit users
- Leviathan's Armor acts as bonus HP that even Gravity or the Piercing enchantment cannot ignore
- Ideal for PvP beginners: it forgives mistakes
- Very useful against teamers, spammers, and trappers
- No mobility buff: ground gameplay is sluggish
- Several fruits (Ice, Awakened Magma, Kitsune...) walk on water and bypass part of the passive
- Deemed outdated by several other races by the community since its nerfs
Our take
The simplest race to learn PvP: you survive mistakes that would kill anyone else. Experienced players often prefer a more offensive or mobile race.
Update history
Race : Shark·Released : Update 1 (original game release, under the name Fish)
-
Update 29.2 14 février 2026 Buff
- Overflow passive (which regenerates by dealing damage to NPCs) greatly increased, from about 22% to about 50%, for the duration of an event. The bonus was removed at the end of the event.
- Water Body: duration raised from 4.5 s to 5 s (source's Water Body page; the Shark page also says 5 s as of 29 September 2026, it still said 80% reduction the day before, corrected to 70%).
-
Update 21 Nerf
- Shark nerfed: slowdowns and maximum overflow of awakened passives reduced; overflow now protects only against 85% of damage taken (instead of 100%). V3: defense lowered from 80% to 70% and duration reduced from 6.5 s to 4.5 s.
