Angler

NPC

Angler is the central NPC for fishing, and he is present in all three seas. You need at least Fishing level 20 to talk to him. He then offers you three dialogue options, some of which only unlock under certain conditions: craft a rod, buy bait, or take a fishing quest. Each successful quest raises your Trust with him by one point, and it's this Trust that unlocks the upper part of the catalog.

How to get it

His appearance changes from one sea to another.

The 4 fishing rods

The 7 baits

They are always crafted in batches of 10.

BaitRarityCost for 10SeaTrust Required
Basic BaitCommon1 000 BeliAll0

Good BaitUncommon8 000 BeliFirst Sea10

Carnivore BaitRare60 000 Beli, 1 Dragon ScaleThird Sea15

The prices and rarities don't really match up in the source: Kelp Bait is more expensive than Good Bait even though it requires less Trust and they have the same rarity, and Abyssal Bait, despite being Legendary, unlocks at 5 Trust while Frozen Bait, only Rare, requires 20.

Fishing quests

Angler randomly selects one of his four quests, each with equal probability:

The Angler, the fishing NPC who hands out fishing quests.
  • Catch a Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, or Mythical fish.
  • Catch three fish, any fish, in less than 2 minutes and 5 seconds.
  • Achieve three perfect casts and three perfect reactions.
  • Use a rod's ability three times, no matter which one.

A 15-minute cooldown starts as soon as you accept a quest, whether you complete it or cancel it. While it's active, you can't take a new one; and if the previous quest is still ongoing, you must abandon it first. Quests that require an Epic or Mythical fish are considered the most difficult.

Trust, cap, and counter calculation

  • +1 Trust per successful quest.
  • Angler stops at 100 quests, and the Beli reward caps at 11 000.
  • You can estimate how many quests you've already completed using the formula (reward minus 1 000) divided by 100. A reward of 1 700 Beli means 7 quests completed, with the eighth in progress.
  • Note that this formula only applies to the two quests "three perfect casts and three perfect reactions" and "use a rod's ability three times".

One Angler per sea, but only one cooldown

  • Each sea has its own Angler, and its own reputation: your Trust in the First Sea is worth nothing in the Second or Third Sea; progress doesn't carry over.
  • On the other hand, the 15-minute cooldown is shared across all three: changing seas doesn't let you chain quests faster.
  • The Second Sea Angler is the most profitable: he gives access to solid rods and baits for fairly low Trust requirements.

Bugs and useful details

  • Known bug: if you catch the fish within the time limit but wait for the quest to expire before talking to Angler, the dialogue can freeze.
  • The term "Epic Fish" used in quest text actually refers to a Legendary fish.
  • For the ability quest, you can switch rods mid-quest: it's faster.
