Manager

NPC

The Manager holds the counter at the Café in Second Sea. He has only one use, but it's crucial: his dialogues tell you what stage the Legendary Sword Dealer's cycle is at - the merchant who sells legendary swords. Knowing how to read his phrases means knowing when to stay on a server and when to switch. He sells nothing and gives no quests.

How to get it

He's always behind the counter at the Café in Second Sea. Two conditions for him to answer you usefully: you must have completed the Colosseum Quest, and you must have been on the server for at least 10 minutes - an anti-server-hop guard.

His dialogues and what they mean

What he saysWhat it means
« Are you new to this island? »You haven't completed the Colosseum Quest yet.
« It's still too early for you to be here. »You just joined the server: wait 10 minutes before you can question him. This is the anti-server-hop protection.
« Some pirates said they ran into him on a nearby island last week. Check back later and I'll let you know what I hear. »More than 1 h 15 but less than 4 h 45 remain before the Dealer appears. Switch servers.
« A man in here earlier claimed to see his ship nearby today. Check back with me later. »Less than 1 h 15 but more than 15 minutes remain. Switching servers is no longer really recommended.
« I think he should be getting here soon, it's all anyone in here has been talking about. »Less than 15 minutes. Don't switch servers at all.
« Hey! I just saw him! He told me he would be in the area for 15 minutes. Good luck! »The Dealer has appeared. You have about 15 minutes to find him. If he's not at any known spot, someone already bought the sword, or time has run out.
« Meh, he left not too long ago. »The Dealer left not too long ago. On a private server, it could also simply mean the server has less than 30 minutes of existence.

The Fandom notes that these durations are estimates with a margin of about 15 minutes.

The Legendary Sword Dealer's cycle

  • The complete cycle lasts 5 h 15.
  • Once appeared, the Dealer stays about 15 minutes, then disappears.
  • In an empty private server, it takes 4 h 15 for him to appear the first time, then 5 h 15 between each appearance.
  • Still in private server: as long as the server has less than 30 minutes, the Manager will systematically answer « Meh, he left not too long ago », once your 10 minutes of waiting have passed.

The server hop strategy

The principle: switch servers until you land on the dialogue « I think he should be getting here soon », which announces 15 minutes or less.

  • Each hop costs you 10 minutes of waiting before you can talk to the Manager again, but statistically it still pays off.
  • The Fandom estimates the chance of landing on the right state at about 1 in 4 per server: 44% after two hops, 58% after three, 69% after four.
  • Starting from 3 hours of waiting, you have the margin for at least nine hops before it costs you time. Beyond nine, the risk of being a loser is estimated at 7.5%.
  • Even when the Manager is at the dialogue « Some pirates said... », hopping remains profitable in about 7 out of 10 cases.

A caveat: the Fandom attaches these percentages to the "third dialogue" without clearly saying which one it is in its own list. Take them as an order of magnitude, not as an exact value.

Practical tips

  • Do a round of the Legendary Sword Dealer's spawn spots before questioning the Manager when you arrive on a server: he might already be there.
  • Look for a server without exploiters. An exploiter can buy the sword automatically, and the Dealer disappears immediately.
  • Don't trust the players present in the Café, even if they've been there for more than 10 minutes: those hunting the same sword can announce a fake dialogue to push you to switch servers and stay quiet.
  • Conversely, a lot of people gathered around the Manager is a good sign that the Dealer is approaching.
  • Beware of campers posted near the Manager: they want the sword too.
  • Stay discreet when you check. If you consult the Manager constantly, others will understand that the spawn is close.
